Hi everybody, Thought I would post the progress of my 2.5-16 complete restoration. I acquired the car back in 1992 when the car was about 3 years old. So it holds a lot of special memories for me. I remember at the time there was nothing quite like it on the road and I recall test...
That is a bit of a mess.

I think I'll have a look at it, if the rust, mileage and service history is good then I might have to "invest". I had a quick look at it on the side of the road, but am yet to speak to the seller, have spoken to his dad though! It's an MOT fail (handbrake - September) priced at £3900. So could be a good buy.

Cheapest to buy at the outset is generally not the cheapest in the long run.

You'll want to ensure it is not a money pit. Why are they selling it ? Why are they pitching it at the price they are ?

I obviously presume they know what they have, and would ask what do they know about it that is making them pitch it at the price they are pitching it at.

Not in any way trying to be awkward, just looking to give a word of caution, so that the head over rules the heart. BTDT in the past.

The green UrS6 Avant for sale on here could be less of a risk.

      Best wishes.

944 turbo has much more potential, but heading up in price.

How about a poverty spec 944, and swap a chipped AAN into it
Ha ha, not into a welfare 944. It would have to be the late edition 944 Turbo. I know these cars will keep heading up in price, so although it might be £15k+ for a decent one, it is almost guaranteed to hold money or more likely rise. I almost broke the bank/savings and bought an RR Quattro about 2yrs ago. I reckon I could have had it for around 16-18k and it was mint. They are up for sale for around £30k now. Crazy.

Some of the porsches are brilliant investments. If I had more money, I would deffo be looking at certain higher spec motors.

I watched a Harry's Garage vid on youtube last night from 2013(?) where he was waxing lyrical about the Merc 600SL R129 V12 that he bagged for £5200 with 140k on the clock.

He claimed Mercedes said it was their most reliable engine and he leaves it in France in the off season. Can't find one for less than triple that price now in the popular classifieds although mileages are much less than 140k.

These two were for sale in the lobby amongst a few other cool benz.

W201 is a great car ... evo is "level pro"
last MBs that were worth to wear that badge imo
problems were: mechanical injection, wiring (insulation peeling off), powered windows, roof opening mechanics, ABS (sensors)

had '92. 1.8 with sport trim ... turned out it was 2.0 (?)
rebuilt and replaced with 2.3 engine
                            great handling, regardless RWD
great comfort, regardless it was dropped

Cheers for all the replies, I haven't managed to get hold of the seller yet. Some inside info I've been told is that it's a drug dealer's car too!

But that's not going to put me off, a car is a car at the end of the day. I'll update if I ever manage to get a viewing...
