The secret to Top Gears success since 2000 has its ability to move away from the presenter-as-credible-motoring-journalist format and entertain by playing up to the stereotypes in british motoring. Clarkson was the bull-in-a-china shop petrol head whose solution to every problem and challenge was more power. May was Mr Middle - middle aged, middle class and a pedant who obsessed over the detail and processes while losing perspective of the bigger picture. Hammond was the boy racer who would drive anything tuned in dayglo or stripes and was a bit of a lad.

In terms of communication, they reflected characters everyone in their audience could recognise and identified with...and even overseas, the characters were entertaining in their own right.

How the BBC plan on moving on from the Clarkson format is anyone's guess. I don't think it will be as entertaining.

Their characters deliberately set themselves up for failure most of the time which meant that they never put themselves above their audience so never alienated themselves. When it unexpectedly succeeded, like with the channel crossing, their success was all the more sweet. It's a well tested but superbly crafted formula usually found in sitcoms.

BBC gone mad on political correctness these days, so my guess is:-

          Warwick Davies.
Angela Rippon (I.e top gear history and Evans brought back Moira on Radio 2)
          and sombody else

          (All boxes ticked)

          Just wish it was..
          Plato
          Victoria BH
          Tiff
But that line-up sounds familiar somehow.

            Anne Widdicombe - Mrs Middle
            Katie Price - Girl Racer
Amy McDonald (the singer, she has a history of Ferrari ownership) - Ms MorePower.

Vicky Butler Henderson... theres a name I have'nt heard for a while. My friend has her old Rally prepped nova that she never got to race due to a broken leg.... 250bhp out of a race prepped Nova is pretty scary i can tell you!

It's due a bit of a change of format as the last few series have been overly predictable and copies of previous episodes really. Chris I'm not sure of yet, but will see

Tiff Needel and the legend Quentin Wilson himself
Maybe then it'll return to being about cars, auctions, and looking out for lemons
