yeah, in my humble opinion a well looked-after B6 is actually a lot of car for the money. I keep thinking about changing mine but it's looking after me so well I struggle to justify it.--------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah the more I look the more I think I should wait.Mate, keep saving a bit more and buy a already done car like an Evo V or VI for ~ 6500/7000

You'll have 4 doors instead of the 2 of the S2, decent trunk, very good brakes and suspension from scratch, 300bhp... And only with a remap ~ 360bhp
Forget expensive and heavy Audi B5 stuff
Don't buy with hurry and make up your mind
Again the Evo's are lovely cars and would love to have one. Is there a reason why there seems to be more 6's than 5's for sale??Comment

B6 V8 timing chains are at the back of the engine.
B5 S4 have 2 turbos that require engine removal.
I would suggest against buying a car at the cheap end of the price bracket if you want to avoid a project.
TT/S3 should be 260 bhp with a couple of bolt ons and a remap.
Jap stuff seems to rust like mad compared to German.
Random list of cars that are somewhat "interesting" within that price

I would note that some of the cars on that list at that price will be basket cases.
I bought a 350z as a turn key fun car, 280bhp, rwd, nice handling and reliable, also "new" (eg 2000+) which is a novelty to me.Current-2004 Impreza PPP wagon

Some AMG Mercs are insanely cheap to buy now, any idea of running costs for fixing them when they break?
EG Range Rover Sport active anti roll bar setup can be £3-£4k to replace
