I really am unclear as to what you are asking.

1. Do you need a new key blank?
2. Do you need an infrared key blank?
3. Do you need the key code only available from the dealer based on your RS2's VIN?
4. Is your old key is too worn to use as a workable template for cutting the new key?

Nothing. Now that you have restated the situation.

Reprogramming the key, if/when required, involves have one key in the ignition, turned to ON/RUN (but not START) while the second key is used to manually lock and unlock the drivers door lock. If the car has been sitting for some time or you have to change the batteries, getting the remote to work again just requires that you lock and unlock the door manually once and then the key remote will "work" again. (The IR remote has a very limited range and is interfered with by bright sunlight and fluorescent lights (e.g. in a parking garage). HTH

You will probably want to prove to yourself that the infrared bulb in the key is working by pointing the key at a cell phone in camera mode or a digital camera in portrait mode and pushing the button on the key. You should see a small white "flash" coming from the key at that moment. If no, you might have to replace the batteries or the bulb.

Batteries (4) are Energizer 386/301, oriented as shown in the photo below.

My 2c worth.....when locking and unlocking with the "new" key - keep the key in the lock position for 5 seconds and in the unlock position for 5 seconds. Not sure if this makes a huge difference but has worked for me !!!

My car is rs2. They dont have remote locking from key.i think you are telling me the way to programe later models with open/close buttons.rs2 keys only have a chip in them

My experience is on my RS2. Must admit - I haven't had to get a new key, but whenever the remote (button on the key) doesn't work, I've used the lock/unlock method.
Sorry should have stated that in the first place.

I have changed my pump a month ago, My rs2 is a 1994.
Do i also have to do the lock/unlock methode?

Hmmm....*some* RS2s had infrared remote. None that I know of had radio frequency remote. On that basis, I am not sure that you have any kind of remote, just central locking with the key in the door lock.

There are no buttons on the key. So central locking is activated by turning the key in the lock. Right?

Documenting the PN history for the Central Locking Pumps

Hmmm....*some* RS2s had infrared remote. None that I know of had radio frequency remote. On that basis, I am not sure that you have any kind of remote, just central locking with the key in the door lock.

The RS2s came with one of two central locking pumps:

4A0862257H = pump with control module (no mention of remote) "VD0". I am thinking this might be what the V8 avant has. It was central locking but only with the key in the door (or hatch) locks. I have subsequently added an aftermarket radio frequency remote/alarm system.

4A0862257J = seems to be the only replacement pump left. It now shows in the C4 parts all the way back to 1991 (Europe A 100) = pump with control module for vehicles with anti-theft system for vehicles with infrared locking system. (No mention of VDO or Hella). Shows up as the RS2 central locking remote control module.

yep doors only open when key is in door lock and my original key starts the car,i have an alarm on the car for remote unlocking/locking, so just need the spare key sorting, looks like the dealers

So i have a 4A0862257J pump, the rs2 Has the Infrarot System original. But the the close/unlock 5seconds and the reprogramming with one key on the contact in on either, any Other suggestions?

just checked on vagcat and all year rs2,s has the same key with light and no infrared, just fixed code transponder,part no 4AO837220 main key and 4AO837219 secondary key with fixed transponder

So the "chip" you are talking about relates to a factory immobilizer. Dealer is the only source of those keys.
