    one of lifes pleasures...

so had the house to myself this week with wife and kids down in the west country visiting family.

I bought a new pair of speakers at the turn of the year and not really had time to appreciate them in an empty QUIET house.

Got to say given they are used as the left & right of a 5:1 home cinema setup on a daily basis, enjoying a few days of pure two channel music through spotify and digging up cd's for the old Cyrus, they are bloody impressive for the price, huge detail and wide soundstage.

If you're in the market for a pair of floorstanders for modest money then I can wholeheartedly recommend the Q Acoustics 3050's. I retired my old Mission 752's which were a great speaker but these are mega for the money!

Q Acoustics 3050 Speakers Martin Colloms gets very enthusiastic about a surprisingly inexpensive pair of floorstanding loudspeakers. Review By Martin Colloms Of HIFICRITIC

Im running a B&O set up.

    Keep up the good work

I have the luxery of a dedicated listening / HT room, best investment ever, especially on those rare occasions I am the only one home.

Interesting bit of furniture you got there, i wouldn't know where to start buying speakers these days, hence i recently restored a mid 70's vintage pair of KEF 104's.

Would be interested to know what amplifiers you guys are using too..

main L/R speakers are DIY 3 way units from CSS, 10" bass, 4" midrange, 1"tweet. stereo amp is a Hypex ncore, multichannel amp is a HK AVR8500, DVD/SACD is a Denon 3910, streaming is a squeezebox. Turntables (currently all under revision ) are a Dual 741Q, a Thorens TD125, and a Dual 505. Tapedeck is a Revox B77, cassette player a Nakamichi BX125; and a Themescene projector with 6' screen. subwoofer (under construction, sold my 12" last year) is DIY dual 15" (the fronts have enough bass to enjoy movies without sub actually, so progress is slow). not all is hooked up atm, need to find a way to be able to switch amps stereo/HT for example so now only the HK is hooked up (I'll probably end up building a separate set of speakers for the HT )

I am a big fan of DIY audio hardware. My current setup is a little old school. The preamp uses two Russian Military vacuum tubes from the 1960's which feeds into a Firstwatt F4 clone (big black box) which is a Class A current source amplifier. Meaning it sucks 120watts of power out of the wall to output 25watts into each speaker so its hugely inefficient. Bit like daily driving an S2 when the rest of the world is driving around in hybrids. Speakers are a 1970's vintage KEF 104ab Reference which i had to completely strip and refinish the woodwork and rebuild the electronics inside. Its an addictive hobby if your a music lover

Car audio, i couldn't give a stuff, cant remember the last time i even turned it on
