I did this on a Coupe quattro 20v. I'll see if I can find the pics

it wasn't that difficult. Scariest part is prising off the needle on the tacho

Cheers Mike was kind of hoping not to take the needle off this would scare the **** out of me!!! Theres 5 brass screws on the back of the rev counter I was wondering if I unscrewed the right ones it would just come away from the plastic unit its attached to?

        From another forum

remove the dimmer (arrowed) and also remove all the screws round the outside - one of them is arrowed. There's 8 of these

this allows you to remove the circuit board from the glass

remove the 2 nuts arrowed - this allows you to remove the temp gauge

the tacho is now removable from the rest of the circuit board. it just lifts up. I used a small screw driver to prise them apart

the most difficult part - remove the needle from the tacho

I used small cutlery knives to gently lift the needle from the drive spindle of the tacho.

Be very careful as it is fragile. I was successful with no breakage. If it was to break, you could probably get away with gluing it

Once off, you can remove the face by removing the 2 small black screws either side of the needle.

Also pull off the clock adjuster knob - this requires a bit of force

Lift off the light guide to allow access to the screws holding the clock

Definitely do not try that. I thought you had to go in from the rear as well but you can't. The clock is held on from the front by 2 screws - the only way to get to them is to remove the face

I've posted some of the pics I took at the time which should help

No problem. I need to do it again on my new S2. Clock is totally dead.

When you refit the needle, be careful to get it in the correct location for sitting at zero. It's counter weighted so when you put the needle on and let it go, it will move to its natural resting position.

Best tip I can give, use 2 teaspoons to remove the needle, one each side like 2 little crowbars... very controllable and no sharp edges anywhere!
Honda CBR 1100XX Blackbird Turbo....undergoing major changes.....
S2 Coupe... bit easier off the line...
'03 ZX12-R daily hack.... lots of nice bolt ons...
