    What's she worth

Aight guys looks like it might be time to sell my 89 Coupe just looking for info on what she’s worth. Currently has not MOT that expired in 2013 and it has been driven since. It has been started over the years but the cold weather this winter killed the battery and I’ve not had chance to charge one and get it started since xmas time.

I have most if not all service history although theres not really much there as the car has spend the best part of the last 28 years off the road. Milage on the last MOT was 61,991 the car itself will have a couple of thousand more miles on it as It was driven for the rest of the year although not much.

So on to the bad points drivers seat frame is snapped I had this welded back up a few years ago and it snapped again so a repayment seat will be required or it can be welded again. On the last MOT it had a few advisories they are as follows.

N/s/f seat does not fold forward
battery insecure (left the bolt in my garage as I had been disconnecting the battery while the car was off the road).
    drop link bushes perished
Exhaust corroded (had the middle box cut out and a straight pipe welded in years ago by wabtec)
    Fuel pipes corroded
    Fuel filter corroded
Underbody corroded (I was told it just needed a new coat of sealant)
Oil leak from engine bay (this was the rocker cover gasket which was done at the same time as the MOT)

Rear wiper doesn’t work (just the usual probably needs stripping and cleaning and should work fine)
Has a small dent on the rear quarter which can be seen in the pics.
It also needs the tracking done on the wheels I knew about this before I put it away but figured there wasn’t much point doing it as I knew it was going away for a while.
Rear lights need resealing as would be expected on any coupe of this age. (I never bothered to fix it because I never drove it in the rain and it has always been garaged).

It has a few subtle mods.
It’s been lowered all round (was like that when I got it)
Badge removed from the front grill also had the rear badges removed and painted and the badges on the front quarters removed filled and painted.

I have a box of spares some original parts that have been swapped and loads of bits and pieces I removed from an 80 that I kept as spares.

Anyway on with the pictures just trying to figure out what its worth before I let her go. Needs must and all and I really could do with a more practical car that I can use every day.

Here are the pics I took last time I had her on the road back in 2012/2013. I know she would be worth more if I got her an MOT but I really don't want to go to the trouble of getting insurance etc its just an added expense and I would rather sell to an enthusiast who can do the few bits she needs doing themselves.

Looked at one very similar in Essex last year guy was asking £400 only reason I didn't buy was my sister didn't want it and it was for her. I reckon the right buyer might go up to a grand but not sure it'll go much higher

Well thats not the response I was expecting to be honest and to be fair I'm sure the one you went to see didn't have 62k on the clock. I have seen many coupes over the years and until recently (White Coupe on eBay for 10k) I've not seen that are even close to being in as good condition as mine.

It is what it is buddy I asks for peoples opinions and you are just as entitled to yours as everyone else. I see the value in the milage and the engine 2.2 KV but you are right its only worth what someone is prepared to pay. Lets just say I'm not looking for 10k like the crazy guy with the white 2.6 on eBay lol

Selling without an MOT will knock the price DRAMATICALLY...

I would suggest at least getting a years ticket... not been MOTd since 2013, you need someone to take a chance and why would they unless the price was convincing...?

Edit: does look lovely in the pictures...
Honda CBR 1100XX Blackbird Turbo....undergoing major changes.....
S2 Coupe... bit easier off the line...
'03 ZX12-R daily hack.... lots of nice bolt ons...

Yep, MOT it, drive it a few weeks, and then sell, can probably add a 1 in front of the figures above then.

Try and put it all back to standard if you have the parts , that's where the money is. Good , low mileage completely standard cars

You must have an idea in your mind as to what you think its worth....

You tell us what you think, my guess is without an MOT its probably worth 4-500, if you`re lucky.

If I had to guess I would have thought judging by the price of the old coupes I have been seeing £4k+ with an MOT, now granted I can actually see the car and know the condition that it is in maybe I'm bias but I can't see it costing more than £500 to get it a fresh MOT. Now I understand any car without MOT is a gamble so I wouldn't expect that amount but surly it doesn't lose 80% of its value? I have seen a few S2's at well over 15k recently with more miles, I also see 2.0E coupes sitting at £1500+ with over 100k miles on them. All things considered this is easily one of the best coupes in the country regarding condition and with the engine that I have been very rare I have no idea where the £500 figure is coming from just recently I've seen a few rust buckets sell on the bay for £900+ but hey what would I know.

Those 2.0 may be up for £1500 , however how many sell ? Same as the 15k s2's.

It hasn't been on the road for 4 years, the fuel lines are corroded, exhaust corroded, floor corroded and you say that you would just cover the corrosion with underseal. In the 4 years I wonder what else is wrong now, take it back to the MOT station and get another check for £50 then re-advertise it with all the faults plus the new ones that have appeared in the last 4 years. What do the brakes look like now after 4 years off the road?

Why not spend £500 on it yourself and get it MOT`d then try to get your "£4k+" oh and get some recent pictures of it up, not pictures from 4 or 5 years ago, you never know someone might want it.

                            £400-£600 without MOT.
                            Maybe £1,000 with MOT.

If it's any use as a guide, I sold a 1990 Coupe quattro 20v with a full 12 months MOT for just over £1500.

With all due respect, a fwd 2.2 is not a sought after example and you'll struggle to get 4 figures for it, especially since it hasn't seen a road for 4 years
