    RS2 out of hibernation, BUT!!

Just took her out for first drive after been tucked up for winter road salt.
Usual routine, low revs, wait for temps to come up.
Then give it some beans for first overtake, but things didn't go to plan.
3rd gear rev needle hit 3 and a half, then big jolt in the back, complete power loss. Sure I've got whiplash it was so sudden and aggressive.

Pulled into inside lane and let car slow down, then I went back on power, but kept it below 3 and and a half everything o.k.

Tried once more with aggressive acceleration same thing happened, massive jolt. At this point I turned for home, and signed onto forum.

There are no nasty mechanical noises, and rest of car feels sweet, just this nasty knock off of power at 3 and a half.

Would be gratefull for any pointers on fault finding, I'm not to clued on technical issues, so you might have to spell it out to me.

    Cheers.

Boost cut due to cold temps/more dense air?

Get codes out of it before you start guessing, will cost a fortune guessing!

Try unplugging the MAF and plugging back in. Always used to fix a very similar fault for me.

        pull fault codes first
then check for a leak in a boost hose

Thanks boy's, codes and possible boost leak.

Will check hoses and maf. I don't have a code reader, but I have a good man who can check codes if I don't find anything obvious in engine bay.

I'll let you know when I get to the bottom of it.

            Thanks for suggestions.

Deffo would try disconnecting the MAF connector like Colesy said. Mine used to do this a few years back. Mine also never salt or rain, so would be garaged from end of Oct thru to about this sort of time when I was clucking for a bit of boosty boosty ha ha.

Some very fine wet/dry paper doused in contact cleaner and gently rubbed over the contact prongs on both the MAF connector and inside the MAF plug would see it all singing again. It was bloody annoying. I bet its not that now and you have a busted hose but its so easy to try that I would rule it out first as plenty of people have experienced that before.

                  Yep, MAF connector
If not then a blown hose, although you can usually hear a blown hose if you bring it up into boost with the window down.

Could be the O ring in the intercooler connection "rolling out" or a split opening as raise the boost pressure in the inlet system, however this normally would be heard if it has gone. Can you increase the revs above 3.5k gently, if so how far can you go?

                          THE BOOST IS BACK

Maf it was. i did the clean up as described. Took her out, very gently she crept to 3 and a half, then onto 4, still all good, then onto warp speed.

It felt good, very good. My daily is a Defender, which is steady So to get back in RS2, well feels like a rocket ship.

Very happy I didn't have to go looking for a boost leak. I'm a lucky boy.
                          Normal service can now resume.

A big thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread.
