With Owen and Shearer up front, what's their chances at a shot at the Champions this season? BTW Liverpool are fools for not getting Owen back. Cisse will be gone soon. Owen is a much better goleador than the Frenchman.
lol, I find it so odd that you follow football. Shearer still has scoring potential but unfortunatly he is geting any younger. I would say liverpool still have the edge over the two and yes it is a shame they didnt take owen back, im not sure if all liverpool fans would agree with me though!
Ive often tried to get into american football, but I just cant, and I have no real understanding of the rules.
I wouldn't agree with that, Liverpool defensively are head and shoulders above Newcastle, but Newcastles midfield and strike force can hold their own with the top 3.
Tacitally i dont think Liverpool could win the premship as they dont have a genuine goal threat with the current 4-5-1 formation. If they unleashed Cisse week in and out that would be interesting.
Liverpool couldn't buy Owen at 17m, newcastle were clever with that bid, paying 9mil extra for a player you sold less than 12 months ago is silly.
Robatron, you are wasting your time with American Football...
I use too follow it religiously but no more. It bores me too tears. As for football, Ive played it since I was 7. I love it but it has extracted a high price on my body. What
with shredded knees, blown cartilage, bad back, a bad ankle, assorted scars etc.
I still follow the game in Mexico, UK, Spain and Italy.
No chance, look at the back line they leak to many goals. I think the tide is turning in North London and the Spurs are finally on there way up. Englands number one, Ledley King, Davids, Carrick, Jenas, Defoe now thats a spine and five of those are young English players not that i have anything against the foreign players. Come on u spurs

Can't really compare though, sometimes it's not what you've won, it's how you've won it.
Newcastle fans demand a certain style of play (so do Spurs) which is why they haven't won much as that style is geared for entertainment and not primarily results
The only teams to win in style in recent years is the Gunners (wtf? ****nal is filltered?) and Man Utd. Chelsea are based on a negative style of play.
Liverpool won the champ league on a defensive basis and too be honest if AC Milan hadn't turned up in the 2nd half with the attitude the game was already won we'd be talking about a different result.
But fair play to the Pool because they're 2 home grown players in Gerrard and Carragher played a blinder and pushed the team to limits not even they knew existed.
May i remind you that with Owen Liverpool won 5 cups in one season, also he single handly won them the FA cup against the Gunners with 2 late goals.
People have very short memories, i hate speaking football with the average fan as they haven't a clue.
BTW i'm a qualified FA coach and run a saturday league side befeore you go what do i know.
I hope your not a Villa fan as that would just make the circle complete.
i run a footy side too just retired .and no i,m a liverpool supporter .i do like owen very good goal scorer but he should never have left liverpool for real he knew he was never going to get ahead of raul ,ronaldo ,and co they are mr real madrid.

You sir have hit the nail on the head!
The problem was under Houllier Liverpool were so counter attacking i think it got to Owen. Then again who could resist the chance to play for Real Madrid in reality as he can say he's done it and i doubt there will be a long list of english player who will go to Madrid down the years
English players dont export well, from the 90's to Y2k i can only think of Gazza, Paul Ince, David Platt, David Beckham, Steve McManaman who have gone abroad and had an impact.
When you compare this to the amount of French, Dutch, Greek players etc etc.
you know your footy .i,ve been playing it for 30 years just retired last season . i was running severn trent team in sutton and district league as a player manager but my car projects come first now.
I can see your point Jamo about the style of play thing especially with regards to Tottenham. I love to see the game played in an attacking style of play. That is why most of tottenhams heroes have been of that exciting flair player i.e Gazza, Ginola, Hoddle etc. I think though if u watch some of the best teams in the world mainly Brazil they are very good defensively aswell as that attacking flair. I watched every game of theres on Bravo and they are the best team by far. The ability to slow the game down so much and then in a flash create a goal. If u can getr that formula u will win everything. Who do u manage Jamo?

I used to run a couple of kids side's but have just been running my local side in the Birmingham AFA for the last couple of seasons.
If i took it seriously i could probably go and do the higher course and run coaching classes (mate does that and he's same as me) but i haven't got the time with my full time job.
The thing with Brazilians and Argetine sides is that they have the physical side of the game as well as high skill levels. Yes stevieyid they have that ability and it's very scary to watch!
One side that for the life of me i can't understand is Holland. They have everything to be the most dominant side in europe but seem to be hampered by ego's. If the penny ever dropped they would be a force!
It's only recently that the english game (with more foreign coaches) has improved a hell of alot tactically and technically. I believe that they have the right balance of players to go along way, although current squad lacks a hold up front man.
I think the foreign coaches have improved the game here but i also agree with Sam Alladyce that English coaches are not given a chance. I think there are some coaches down in the lower divisions that will never get the chance to show what they can do. I can think of one notably that coached me at a youth excellent coach fantastic man manager. Currently he is coaching at a div 1 side.
Also i think we have one of the best hold up players in the game but he does not want to play. Alan Shearer would be ideal. When i watch England it all seems manafactured, too coached. It all seems so predictable. When u watch the best teams again Brazil they have that coached element but then they have that bit u cant teach that can stun teams and beat them. We have Rooney that can do it but he needs to play as a striker mot keep tracking back and picking the ball up on the edge of our box.
Holland are a strange side. As u said they have all the ability in the world but cant get it right. When they do get it right thought the rest of the world better watch out.

Thats because english players are coached at a young age at the safety first option.
One thing i tried to do was get the kids to express themselves in training without fear of mistakes in special sessions which does lead to some serious amount of dragbacks and funny incidents
I agree there are some good english coaches but there aren't many good english managers. The only one who stands out is Steve McClaren who has the coaching and tactics experience from other countries.
