Why do people insist on refering to bikes performance? The S2 weighs about the same as 5/6 bikes. If you could lighten dougs S2 or jefers to the same weight as a bike then that IS a comparison, but thats not going to happen, is it? At the end of the day its like comparing a fighter jet to a helicopter, they were designed to do different things: rant over

Equally graphic, is the comparison between superbikes and F3 cars. At Snetterton, a good lap by a superbike will still be around 65sec, whereas the F3 cars can get under 60sec. Bear in mind that F3 only have about 210-220bhp and weigh about 600kg with driver, and have to use hard control tyres - but they have 12" rubber at the rear and downforce, so even though they are slower on the long straights the bikes cannot corner as quickly.
Both will leave a touring car in their wake - even the old 300bhp+ super tourers, which lapped Snett in about 70sec+

It's not better than sex, but it runs it a close second.
I would totally love to have a 550hp Audi like yours!
I was just suggesting that everything is relative!
Either way, kudos where kudos is due. I shall be happy with something in the 300's!
The sensation of speed on the takeoff roll of the 737 that I fly is not really apparent because it is so big - of course tiny compared to a 747.. We have a standard call at 80kts to ensure that both our instruments (in particular the Air Speed Indicator - ASI) are reading sensibly, and the next call is "V1", "Rotate".
What is more surprising though is that unlike a car for which there is a speed where the acceleration noticeably reduces, the green trend vector on the ASI doesn't reduce much even at 180kts which is ~200mph.
I think our max "Rotate" speed is ~180kts which is on a hot day out of a performance restricted runway necessitating an "improved climb" takeoff profile - typically Malaga when the wind is northwesterly.
The only two sensations you really get of speed when you are flying are:
1) When you level out just above the cloud tops at night below FL100 (because you then tend to still have your lights on) and you're in and out of the wisps.
Thats when you appreciate you could be moving at close to 400mph.
2) Seeing another jet come the other way +/- 1000ft above/below you where the closing speed may be almost 1000mph!
Anything that goes fast gets my thumbs up. Cars will always ultimately be faster for the reasons Kitten says. But you need some cojones to go fast on a bike.
Just my two pennent as both a bike and car owner........
Forget bikes, they don't count on this forum, neither do planes, trains, helicopters and tanks.
However, if you do want to fall off you chair in amasement, check out this linky.
Watch it all, but in particular, at 2 mins 50 secs through, check out the speed of the chase bike when the busa comes past...It is a 12Mb file, but worth it if you wanna see a bike accelerate from 290KPH...that's 180MPH

Nah, thats hogwash!
Everything counts, Anyone who drives a 500hp Audi is a speed-freak as much as an Audi-freak.
Its about the biggest rush of acceleration, and the greatest sense of speed whatever the method whether its Alton Towers, Santa Pod, sky-diving, horse-riding, a RAF centrifuge, downhill skiing, or a 240mph 9ff Porsche at Nardo!
Bikes get me closest to that Vin Deisel utopia bearing in mind my budget:
"I live my life from one quarter mile to the next".
But the craziest thing for me is riding a horse at a gallop. I'm not a good rider at all but that is bonkers and you're only doing 40.
Im a true speed freak & the fastest car ive been in was a supra tt (i wasnt drivin tho) it had about 400bhp. It didnt scare me at all. Id like to experience havin 400+ in my control :mischeif: i often wonder what that "chuck ya back in ya seat" rush feels like.
I live 15miles away from the tower's but wont risk RITA, due to old car smash injuries.
(not my driving tho, drunk driver come out from nowhere n ploughed me good style)
