any of you S2 boys paid homage to the Ring yet ? I hope you managed to beat Clarksons time of 10mins ? what sort of times did you get is it all about BHP or driver skill?

A decent car (any performance Audi!!), good suspension set up, complete knowledge of the 'Ring' and a handfull of skill should easily beat Clarkson!

I haven't let let my "Ringworm" get the best of me by tracking my S2 Avant yet. I want to do the Porsche caliper upgrade first... It really will need it on the Ring ! :mischeif:

But, I did do a 9,35 in my previous 5-Speed manual Getrag g/box BMW 530i V8.

Welcome. I've been to the 'ring loads of times but I never time my laps. In my opinion this is what leads to people trying to exceed the limits of themselves or the car.

@Mike - I would like to plan a trip to the 'ring next year. Any advice as to the best time of year, or days of the week to go. In fact any more info would be appreciated.

best advice is to try and go midweek. It's usually a 2 hour session but you'll get more track time than a full weekend day and there's usually less tourists. The opening times are released in early March next year on the official site.

The weekends during the summer months now are far too busy and for a first timer it can be quite intimidating with all the bikes and Porsches etc together.

Don't use GT4 to learn the track - I've played it and the timing is miles out. Best to watch videos to learn the lines.

Thanks Mike. Ill have a look at his site. I was going to plan it for March/April next year. Yeah i've played GT4 to death, including the 'ring.

My advise to anybody planning a trip from the UK is dont attempt it till May cus it does snow in the Eifel (they still have a winter not the mild wet thing we get). Dont worry about learning the track when your queing up to start pick out one of the Race prepared porkers and try and follow it ,if you cant keep up dont worry they are like buses and another will be along soon enough.

I'll second that.

I hardly ever go to the ring in late autumn, winter and early spring. Except if it's very sunny and crispy cold ( no humidity at all ), I keep well away from the treacherous Ring.:mischeif:
And even if I go, I take it easy since the tires never heat up properly when it's below 5° celsius.

Since coming from the UK means planning, best to wait till next spring

My buddy made a crazy ring lap with a stock '94 S4 V8. Ordinary street tires, stock suspension with at least 200000km on them... 9.53. I was impressed I must say. We'll go down there next year again, this time I'll be there with my S2 Avant. Anything over 9.53 will feel like a failure...

I have never been to the Ring - I wish I could but it would be kinda expensive to ship my S2 9000 km to drive around a track

What I can say is that my S2 with me driving is 2 seconds faster around the Phakisa track here in South Africa than a professional driver achieved in a E60 M5 in a magazine shootout recently. And apparently the M5 is good for 8:10 around the Ring.

My S2 pushes out about 400 hp, has a full racing suspension ans I use semi slicks. The only problem is that we are 5000 feet above sea level and the M5 loses about 17% in power as it is normally aspirated.
