S2 vs. Honda Integra Type R

I met one of these at the traffic lights last week... (He was behind me, but pestering)

Should my stock S2 be able to beat him off?

Was it the new version or old one?? Either way you should still be able to pull away from him.
    Cheers,

The integra has a better power to weight ratio but the grip of quattro and far superior mid-range torque should be able to deal with the Honda in a straight line. In the dry you should pull out a slight lead, assuming you can get it off the line properly and get close to the quoted 0-60 of about 5.8s. If it was wet then there would be absolutely no question... S2 all the way!

        Been there, done that...

        Hi,

At a drag strip in Belgium against an Integra Type-R, I had the upperhand on the 1/4 mile but about 2 car lengths.

        A V-TEC engine is quite impressive !

Just let the clutch go a 4500 RPM and he'll be eating your dust !!!

I used to drive a Honda ESI, then i saw the light and bought an S2.

I'm not sure about the new Type R's but i seriously doubt you need to worry about it cramming your style.

I live near Torquay (Chav capital of the world) there is keved up civics and novas with 19" chrome alloys and spinners as far as the eye can see.

Nothing like driving through that town in an S2. Its like a Yankee walking through Vietnam in the war.

          very funny though.

According to the Honda website, 0-60 is in 6.2, so no slouch. 1/4 mile is mid 14's.

Much rapidness for a FWD 'normally' aspirated engine. Pray for rain methinks!

I came from the world of hondas and yes they are fast but you have to work for it, right gear, right revs, and ring its neck all the way to the red line. Unless there sitting at 4000rpm in gear you will eat them in an S2, hondas have peak torque is at silly high revs, below 4000rpms **** all happens.

I've had plenty of experience with a prellude 2.2 vtec vs my 7A powered CQ. 220hp vs 170hp theoretically. Standing start the CQ wins every time, by the time the honda has got grip and has the revs above 4k i'm in second gear and gone. An S2 would be laughing at the both of us

But thats assuming all things standard, modded Hondas go very well indeed, if there on the power band they will make you work for it.

                    (Enquiries from an inexperienced driver...)

So, you're telling me, that to get close to the 5.7s 0-60 time, my best bet is to get to 4500rpm, then just drop the clutch...
This won't cause damage, or make me stall?

There is a red Civic Type R where i live and its very rapid to the point that, its as fast as my car on the move, not tried a standing start yet, but if we're both moving i cant do it and my car is chipped and de-cat! Not sure what he has done to it but it is slightly tweeked.

Ive seen it totally waste an S3 a few times as well now, they arent to be under estimated IMO

@Bowlerwell, it doesnt do the clutch or gearbox a lot of good, but it will launch ****ing hard if you do it! Ive done it quite a few times in my car to prove a point to a few cars (the last time being 3 lads in a Subaru Impreza) You will struggle to find a car that will beat you away if you launch like that, just dont do it too often!

That's why the RS2 was the fastest accelerating production car in the world. 0-30mph in 1.5 secs. The same as a Macca F1. The F1 kind of beats the RS2 after that, but you'd have made him think!

The main advantage the Honda has is weight. I had a 1998 JDM Integra Type R. The come in two specs (comfort and race I think the translation is) mine being the 'Race' i.e. no soundproofing, radio, clock, rear washwipe etc. The result was a 1000kg car with a 200BHP engine (I had a Mugen Airbox, decat etc, so estimate an extra 20ponies) resulting in 200+BHP per ton and a chassis setup to die for on track. To be honest You need either an exceptionally set up or very powerful Audi to match/beat it..
