Mihnea has threatend to do one if there is sufficient demand. He's the chip wizard for Audi S2 and any turbo VAG car.

    He's not bad!

I must state at the beginning that I am NO expert of this...I leave that to Mihnea.

Just for you info, most non turbo engines around this size and power can typically gain around 15-20 BHP from generic chipping. This is because all that can be done is to optimise for power rather than economy, by slightly advancing the timing and allowing the max fuel rather than most economic fuel for the air entering the engine.

To get any more, I would assume that you would need mechanical changes, like gas flowed head, extractor manifold and maybe a hotter cam and then a bespoke remap to suit. With all that cost, why not buy an S2?

I looked into this for my 2.8 Coupe and just thought 'sod it - it's too much for little gain' so I took my own advice and bought an ABY

      Cheers n

I asked Mihnea before and said he hadnt done one before but would look into it when MRC is up and running in the UK. I'm not going to bother now but it would be great if somebody would get it done, a homefry for a 7A would be great

BBR GTI do a star chip for the 7A, http://www.bbrgti.com/application_list.php

Also TAP do one for US spec 7As. http://www.tap1.com/

        Mark.

I have now mapped a totally standard 7A and one with different cams, chips are available for both setups or anything else too. Will reply to PMs ASAP!

          Thanks,

why not to low down the compresion ration, put on nice turbo and have 350 bhp? rods are the same as 3b,aby......pistons not,but everything should be good with lowered compresion ration.dont you think so?

Cool - what sort of gains have you measured ?

I remember Schrick offering funky camshafts for the 7A engine a long time ago - I cannot remember the claimed improvements, and who supplied the ECU tweak (if anyone at that time).

Paul, the standard one was close to 200 PS, the one with ABT cams (285 degrees duration) has god knows how many but it's quicker than a Honda S2000 on Spa Francorchamps. Maybe 220 PS?

                Cheers,

Thats a pretty healthy gain for a non turbo engine my man !!!

                  What about torque then ?

I used to have a 7A engined CQ - hence the interest.

We'll have to have a chat about what you can do for the wonderful 'AKE' engine ... no no no I must resist

                      Wow! Good work Mihnea.
It's a no-brainer then. I wish I knew you could do that a couple of years ago.
I take it that was with a tubular manifold.

gain of near 30bhp with no exhaust or intake mods on a n/a engine

do you have the dyno sheet?

what is "close to 200"? 185?

if you have a dyno to prove this i hold my hands up and say well done, i find 200 a bit hard to swallow.

I know I am gonna get flamed for this and going up against a tuning supremo....but I have to agree with the Wab on this. Most tuning companies could not promise more than 18-20 on my 2.8 Coupe and 10-15 on my saloon.

I find it hard to believe that Audi had the 7A so under tuned, for the sake of economy or emmisions.

OK, I have barricaded the door and placed a thick book down my trousers, so I am ready for a spanking.
