Would that suggest the peeps we are sharing the server with have had a dramatic traffic increase? Should that then be their problem? Shoudnt the provider kick their ***? Shoudnt their limit kick into action? Shoudnt I shut up by now?

I must say i question how much this forum is the cause of the server problems, given that the same server busy problem occurs when ive tried to logon to here at silly hours of hte morning and the site was empty when it finally came on.

Today tho is the first time in a while now that ive been able to freely browse without refreshing continuously

I noticed that. Last night, there were 4 users plus a couple of guests, yet I was still hitting some server issues.

This means that it is the server, not just us that is to blame. So when are we changing servers?

Also, how many new posts were there yesterday...prolly only half a dozen. There were more in Chrimbo day, when none of us were actually allowed near the computer!

        Cheers n tears

I CANNOT believe that S2Forum is causing its own problems. We have about 40 - 50 peeps max on here at once.

Again, I don't want to belittle or critise any of the efforts of any of the Mods or MIk are putting in, but as far as I can see we are being screwed by the hosts. The sooner we move to a more understanding host the better*

Glad I have got that off my chest.

                Much better than recently.

Still the odd "Computer Says No!" moment, but a hell of a lot better.
                Cheers,

Mikki is moving us temporarily onto a dedicated server - at much cost. We are looking at alternate hosts who claim to be superior blah blah blah, but I don't want us to rush off to alternate sites in a hurry because of potential messing around with DNS registrations. The potential down-time associated with switching hosts is also potentially significant.

DNS issues shouldnt be too bad tho, only takes 24-48 hours for DNS to propogate world wide approximately. so could be started on a friday and back for the monday or something.

If this site is apparently causing all this load tho, then how do we know that its not just gonna bog down the next server it goes on to, dedicated or not.

Just seems something odd is going on

This is the problem, finding the exact cause. at least in the interim on a dedicated server we can isolate alot of other problems and see what is going on.

Agree with Greg on this - the dedicated server is the best plan we could ever get. Funding it long term is the issue. Brings up the question of do we seek voluntary contributions to pay the high price for a dedicated server.

The dedicated plan should be the ultimate for us - assuming our host has the bandwidth they claim. This will give people a chance to see how good it can be - we should notice a marked improvement - then folk can decide if they want to pay for it... or have to look at some more adverts in the admin's attempts to bankroll the site.
