    URGENT: Ebay advice required!

I have just finished an auction for my car and some russian bloke has won it even though it clearly states a UK COD sale.

Can someone take a look and let me know if I should bother trying to deal with this bloke. (I have already sent an email)

Or should I go for the second highest bidder whom has a much higher rating.

I am a bit of an ebay virgin!

    Help!

    Cheers,

    Steve

Steve, I'm pretty Green in the world of eBay too. I think it would make good sense to offer to the second highest bidder. That's what I would do anyway for what it's worth.

        The problem is this:

        Winner information

User ID Member for Location About Me Shops Seller's Items

        Exact Match:
        aleksei7572 ( 0 ) 8 months Tumenskaya, Russian Federation

Does not sound like someone willing to buy a car in the UK!

Give him a fair chance to respond.
He may be over here selling gas!
If he doesn't repond then offer it to the £50 bidder

He put in a small bid at 18.37 and found he was automatically outbid by cossielover, he then put in a bigger bid at 18.38, 51quid or more and a few other people tried to outbid him but didn't bid enough, ebay kept bidding for him.

Send him an email asking if he is actually in the UK, he may be, even if he is registered in Russia, I dont know what Ebay policy on this would be, best bet would be to ask them.

                  Cheers Guys.

I have already done as you say and contact him, voicing my concerns that he is not actually UK based.

How long do you normally have to wait for a buyer to respond. I was expecting it to all happen quite quickly.

I will give him until the morning to email me and then I will go to the next highest bidder whom has formidable feedback, and fully expect that to be the natural conclusion...

                  Thanks,

                  Cheers,

I know it's frustrating, as you want to get the sale finalised, but I think it's always best to wait. I've bought things while abroad before, sometimes it takes a couple of days to get to a computer and send a reply out...

It does look a bit dodgy, but I'd give him benefit of the doubt until he gives good evidence otherwise (such as, "My cheque is for £200 please return the rest in cash" etc... ). I'm not sure if there is an official response time you are supposed to allow by ebay rules, but I'd think 5 days would be sufficient.

                      cheers

Well Guys I am glad that my spider sense is still full operative. Here is the email from buyer:

                        Response from aleksei7572
                        Item: 1992 VAUXHALL CAVALIER L 1.6i WHITE (4606188352)
This message was sent after the listing closed.
                        aleksei7572 is the winner.

I can not buy the automobile in UK, but I can pay, direct bank payment. I am concerned, how to be?

Needless to say, as far as I am concerned that is a scammer. Negative feedback was left to that effect. Harsh but fair.

                        Second chance offer sent out.

Thanks for all your help and advice. (and Bry's joke )

                        Cheers,

Harsh Steve! I would have waited at least 7 days for payment (most do). You've given him feedback based on your own suspicions, but you're not really sure he's a scammer! From experience, most scammers go for high value items.

                            Maybe.

Lets look at the facts. The auction is for a useless car that is going to go for beer money. He has clearly bid on a car that is not even located in his own country and that has a clear cash on collection payment policy. He outbids a bidder with a formidable feedback record. He wins auction and does not contact me. I contact him at which point he states he is not in the UK (no ****) and could he pay by direct bank payment for a car he has no intention of picking up. Sounds like a scan to me from someone with an already (although small) questionable history.

Harsh yes, but he has wasted my time and everyone else's involved.

This is exactly the reason I don't use ebay much FFS.

                            Cheers,

I agree Steve, that was the best course of action.

eBay is full of scammers, thats the reason I hardly ever sell anything on there, not worth the hassle.
