    Random!

Just rang Admiral and declared my 996's and scorpion system. (Slightly late i know )

    Anyway.

I started with just the brakes, Alison at admiral asked me all sorts of questions regarding increments of HP and Torque...

I then explained to her that it mealy reduces the Stopping distance, in other words making it a safer car for myself and others around. ...

She sort of understood what i meant but said it would bump the premium by £47.79
I thought, ok furry muff ill try to add the exhaust system too.
We when over the whole thing again.. etc etc...

At the end of it she said that if i declared both mods today it woudl cost £49.79 in total...

    So:
    £47.79 for brakes
    and
    £3.00 for scorpion exhaust system

i dont understand how they work out there pricing on these things..
If its only £3 for a bloody exhaust then its no wonder so many chavs are driving around with chimney flues sticking out the back of there frog mobiles.

    I dont get it??

No mate what it is they charge you for changing details of your policy, when i took out the policy online i did a test to see if it was any difference in price and there was none (was 2 years ago)

So your 17" wheels aren't a mod or your uprated suspension? :mischeif:

Still i'd be gutted, remember A Flux charging me £100 for uprated brakes and exhaust on my old car mid policy.
When i questioned it they said admin fee, i replied so it cost xxx amount to type it into your xxxxxx system (i knew the name cause my company installed it years ago), the phone went dead a bit

A standard option on the S2 is a 17" tyre with 245/40/17 wheels according to my Audi boot sticker so does not deviate from manufacturers spec. The car is not lowered and has standard suspension as far as I am aware.

Where did you get the sticker printed?

Some companies class uprated dampers which the Bilsteins are as a mod.

No i'm not joking, elephant do!

Some companies would rather drive you to suicide than pay out a claim on a policy... So its hardly a surprise about the dampers....

Yer I know, but my view is, they will have to strip the car to check the part numbers to find out and they would have to have a good reason / suspicion to go to all that trouble to find out...

[devils advocate]As far as I am concerned the previous owner did not advise me of any upgrades to the suspension system.[/devils advocate]

Technically you are quite right though.

..and as far as I am aware the mechanic did not alert me to the specific performance increases of my 'replacement' turbo and remap

I'm with admiral, tha *******s charge me £200/yr for mods. I figure it better to be safe than sorry, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if they tried to charge extra if I declared the boost guage... didn't lower my premium to delare the alarm + immob, locking nuts etc but they asked the questions. Freakin' joke.

interestingly, even spoilers, body kits, etc that make no difference (in fact IMO they slow the car, make it worth less and less desireable) add a hefty premium. Not that I've been looking to add those accessories by the way

My GF and I had major trouble trying to insure our Clio 182. It was brand new out of the factory, but because we had ticked the Cup Spoiler and Suspension pack (slightly lower, bigger front and rear spoilers and different colour alloys) most insurers treated them as modifications.

So if you ever order a new car, beware which option boxes you tick! Minis are particularly bad, as the base spec Mini is pretty poor, and they add on all the goodies in option packs. The people I was talking to whilst trying to insure the 182 told me horror stories of people who had to return their new Mini because they couldn't afford to insure it - all because they had ticked all the boxes!
