Is anyone aware if the S2 steam cleans ok??
I know its not normally advised but I've done it on loads of other cars and it's been fine.....
I'm hoping someone here has done it on there S2 or if anyone can tell me if there is any areas to pay particular attention to?

No no no no no no. Use a degreaser and/or carb cleaner or similar. The problem is the pressure as it forces water to the places it should never go. You will have problems afterwards. Take your time and do it the hard way

Do a search on "engine bay" and you should be able to find the thread where I described cleaning mine.
Very quickly:
1.) Buy Autoglym Machine cleaner & Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Protectant
2.) Spray AG MC all over engine
3.) Agitate as required with brushes etc
4.) Rinse carefully with domestic hose avoiding staying over electrical components for too long (engine off)
5.) Start engine and close bonnet to allow engine to dry a bit
6.) Spray AG V&R protectant liberally all over engine
7.) Run engine and close bonnet again to allow to dry (or go for a drive )
8.) Open bonnet and admire handy work!
I also used another good product for this which can be found on the other thread about this....
Cheers,
Steve

The engines are designed to be splashproof they just don't like pressure washer water being forced into the sensitive areas. Go steady with a stream of water from a mains supply and you will be fine. Obviously don't stand there for 5 minutes washing your coilpacks or forcing water into the electrics though!
I have done this two or three times and everyone knows how pampered my car is....

As others intimate it's usually a bad idea because it's typically done with a pressure washer and a not a real steam jet...
I will search the forum for other posts on engine cleaning and follow the advice Fat Audi80 kindly left.....
Looks like hard work is the only solution to this one !!
It really isn't that hard. 1/2 hour to an hour will see you with a sparkling engine bay....

I think if you are careful you will be fine. All the connectors are at least IP42 allowing wash down.
Just don't go mad!
