Sounds like a nice idea - I have long wondered about 'how' to do that - given the total lack of sufficient documentation on how we might interface the Autocheck module for this. Somebody must have reverse engineered the module - I'd love to learn more about this one... Maybe the instrument interface module just needs to pretend to be an RDS radio

Would be nice to have integrated instruments on that autocheck module alright - can't imagine it's going to be a cheap trick.

Boost should be very easy as it is available as a digital output from the ECU. Adding EGT would be great but implies a sensor, ADC and associated interface / scaling trickery.

S2Central - If you know how to get the boost level from the ECU please tell. Having not looked at this problem yet (waiting to get my hands on some clocks) I have not thought I through yet.

Generally I hope to put a device between the Autocheck module and the display. When the module wants to talk to the display the device will let it, at all other times the device will display what it is told to by the user.

As far as EGT goes this I am informed is a bit of work, thermocouples and the rest. Displaying boost is easy, logging RPM and boost also easy.

What I propose is to build a simple boost display version that can be upgraded to do more as and when I can do it. At first I was looking at building the boards myself but looking at this thread I might contract it out. To do this I will need to get a number of orders together.

I will build a prototype and either gather some people for a demo of it or take some video (probably both). People can then let me know what they think and I can get an idea of numbers.

I will make it as easy to fit as I can.

A question: I am running Autronic eng managment, would that make it incompatible with this system?

Anyhow the idea sounds great! thumbs up for you guys willing to build a system!

What principles are you basing this module on in terms of interfacing the Autocheck module. Do you have some insider knowledge of the communications to that module (for RDS and other info) ?

I'm a systems engineer (hardware and embedded software background) so we hopefully talk the same language.

The ECU pinout is on S2 Central. The boost signal comes out on a spare pin as a scaled analog output in range 0 to 5V which is directly proportional to ABSOLUTE manifold pressure. FSD for the MAP sensor is 2.5bar which maps to 5V. Doing the math for an 8-bit ADC gives us 9.76mBar per bit (or 19.53mV per bit).

Tricky bit is going to be getting access to the MAP output pin from the ECU on the S2 as I've never known it to be tracked from ECU to anywhere else. This implies a mod to the ECU connector... Or a workaround would use an external MAP sensor that is T'd into the system is much less hassle.

D'oh just read the original post again - I see the thinking now - kinda like the theory actually - as long as there isn't lots of bodging on the instrument cluster to make the connections so as to let the new device drive the screen.....

The RS2 has a 3 bar map so the Readings must be others! Maybe it is better for the Whole system-Car (easy procedure) if we use a separate Boost sensor!

That's true, so a separate MAP sensor is indeed cleaner. Adds to cost, but is less hassle. Suggest an external MAP sensor is a 3bar device come to think of it as some of the big power folk are running 1.7-1.8bar boost (2.8Bar absolute) already.

A chipped RS2 has this Boost or am i wrong?? Maybe we should go for 3,5 Absolute, 2,5 relative??

I think he meant 2.7 bar (3.7 absolute).
