GM 5,3 Liter V8:

The V-8 is more of a traditional, throaty, whomper of an engine. It makes 300 hp and really kicks butt when you put your foot down.

It still gets 15-19 mpg, thanks to displacement control — when the engine is just cruising, only four cylinders are used.

Also : The 300-horsepower V-8 has G.M.'s variable displacement system, which shuts down four cylinders when they aren't needed. With that engine, the 9-7X is rated at 15 in town, 19 on the highway. (Thsi is a 2.2 Tons car)

In my Chipped RS2 i get in the in the Highway 18-20 (nomal Driving) and ca. 13 MPG in the Munich City Traffic! I checked the Fault Codes today and didnt have any!

Running on half of your cylinders is a proven fact but and a big but the AUDI 5 was never designed to run on 2 3 4 cylinders and un balancing the firing order cant be a good thing for the rest of the engine .imo.:

ya i see ya point but round town does it really need to run 5,it must be possible to turn off the injector and plug somehow,i have on probs with my 5pot strugglin at all,my problem is it dont like low speeds.

thats what i meant at low speeds it struggles because the cars are so heavy .have you ever driven the 4 cylinder coupe's?

Are the spark plugs showing signs of rich running. You may want to consider changing them.

Thats is another issue thats needs to be discussed! The Firing will be as normal! Simply a Cylinder wont be fired-fuel injected so the Engine running will be not so cultivated! Did you ever pulled an injector cable, then you will know what i mean!

What will happen if the Spark plug will keep firing even without fuel?

Are there any other -Radical- solutions to have better fuel economy in the City??

If you are speaking to me, i didnt cotrolled the Spark plugs now, i have changed them with Bosch FD5POR (orig RS2) 15000km ago!

I drove mine briefly on 4 cylinders when #4 coilpack failed and it wasn't a particularly nice experience!!

My replacement MAF was a brand new Bosch unit which was exchanged for my knackered one.. the part number is 0.986.280.137 and cost me £224.

In my rs2 i get about the same in city , 25l for a 100kms on the motorway

all i can say is,i hope this pipeline card takes off soon by the sounds of this thread.:mischeif: you can also put a fake registration plate on your car and do drive off's from the filling stations.seriously though,it looks like we're starting to be taxed off the road.we might be better off if hydrogen takes off,doubt it though.

I have just recently purchased an S2 Avant and have found driving with only the lightest throttle 99% of the time and the odd burst of acceleration when needed I managed 24.8mpg on the computer, however when booting it I get less than 18mpg.

It feels to be if it is running rich, I custom mapped my G40 and found it was running to rich and made much better mpg and power arfter a remap. Has anyone achieved better mpg arfter a remap. I have built a multimap switching device for my G40 this allows a tame fuel conserving map and a sport map to be used I will be looking into this for the s2 once I have my wideband sensor and data logger rigged up.

Is it possible to get the book qouted 36mpg at 56mph? Or is this on the flat dead no head wind etc. I was disapointed not to get 28mpg when driving it so gently only enough power to maintain speed on dual carraigway and stuck between 50-60.

What is the best and real worst that people get, mine will be a bit more thirtsty than the coupes being an avant.

I got 29mpg yesterday on my travels to work and back.

Had to drive like the pope to get that though.

Bought the car on Sat. and i'm on my second tankfull already.
First tank was emptied at the rate of 21mpg.

I would say yes as I've got around 33mpg whilst doing 65mph on the motorway. Admittedly I had my cruise control turned on as this does make a big difference over a long journey

I know when my brother got the S2 remapped the fuel economy improved by about 10%. I also know that the S2 tends to run rich anyway as some of that excess fuel is used as a coolant... The best I've ever got on a "run" whilst driving like the preverbial nun was an average of 29mpg but that was totally freakish and totally dull. Over the last 3 years my overall average has been IRO 22-23, but certainly in the last few months it's dropped to the low 17s. On further thought, this may just be a reflection of having done almost next to zero long-distance driving since Christmas, it's nearly all been town (apart from one blast to Brighton and that was a blast!), so I'm certainly suffering from ubanitis there.

Anyway, have just cleaned my MAF in a good ol vat of IPA and we'll have a look.
