Just took my S2 out for the first time :D

It pulls so so hard! I remember my Dad saying that when I get a more powerfull car I won't be able to open it up wherever I want! I know what he means now! Although theres next to no lag, there is a slight lull befor it tries to headbutt the horizon! I went to alton towers on Wednesday and on that new ride 'Rita' (0-60 in 2.5s) and I thought that nothing would ever feel fast again, but for a standard 10 year old car, OMG does it fly! And I can faintly hear the barblebarblebarble of the 5cyl as pull up the road in 1st... how good is it going to sound when I've got an RS2 airbox or something equivalent on there to louden the induction sound! (Well I'm sure some of you guys know exactly how good it will sound !!!)

Just a few questions I have about the car now that I've driven it...

    1. Do the standard leather front seats wobble about a fair bit normally? Its just they seem a bit loose or something- not very audi-esk!

    2. Does the steering have a wolly dead spot at the centre position? Again Im used to a brand new car, and is this normal? Or do the suspension bushes need changing?

    3. I could just about hear a whistle noise as I changed gear...I'm guessing this is the dump valve but I thought the car had a recirculating one as opposed to a atmospheric one?

    4. Is 17mpg any good for a rather brisk 15mile trip? LOL

    1. is prob the plastic clips that go on the seats, same as Mk1, Mk2 Golf etc, pennies from GSF if they are broke or missing and would cause the seat to wobble or seem loose

    4. 17mpg for a brisk drive isnt bad, sensibly you can get it much higher, harder and u can get it lower

Lol, "how low can you go...!"

Which plastic bits do you mean Ant? Are they where the runners are or the back of the upright part of the seat? Its kinda the whole seat which wobbles about.

I recently added an RS2 airbox and it gives a nice but subtle increase in induction raw. This is then lessened a tad if you connect the correct airduct behind the head light. From what I have heard, the open cone filters are just too loud....remember creep up, then blow 'em away :mischeif: or put another way, don't trumpet your entry, only your exit

No seat wobble on any Audi I have ever owned, but I have heard rumours about the clips as Ant says.

It does have a diverter, rather than a dump valve, hence the subtle whistle rather than the Barry boy BANG

I have never managed to average more than 16 on a blast run. I usually get 22-23 urban and around 28 on a long legal speed(ish) run.

Managed 7.5MPG racing a mate bike across a private test track in the Fens (or should that be...called the Fens), but that was just repeated WOT then a big stop for 20 mins....now that is fun when you have 4WD and BIG anchors

            In response to the airfilter...

Is there an in between one then? I mean it just seems a bit quiet at the moment, although I don't want it to be as loud as my clio. Will post up a vid of my 0-60 at Trax 2004 (Silverstone) and you'll see what I mean that it is TOO loud, although sounds good (It has a 3inch 70cm long metal tube from the throttle body (for want of a better word) to the filter element, and as you could imagine barks)!!! Going to leave the exhaust quiet, although it doesnt look very good when I had a peep under the car, so maybe a longlife of something to keep it all rust free and free flowing, but would still want it to look more or less standard, but maybe the tail pipes being an extra inch in diameter to fill the gap nicerly, but not too big!

Oh I'm just rambling on here, sorry if that was hard to follow!

Still excited after my short blast in the car! Unfortunately it was short because nobody is insured on the Audi yet and I could only go up into the lanes behind my house! Always have that guilty feeling after excessive speeding or driving insured but like I always say - it won't happen again! That reminds me to try some insurance comapanies. Getting my NCB soon and my birthday is in Sept, might have to wait till then so that insurance is more like £1k instead of 2!!!

The dead spot in the steering will be worn suspension components on the front end. Very common on the S2. Check the top mounts, wishbone rubbers, balljoints, etc for wear. When you've done them all, it will be time to start doing them again Uprate them with poly bushes, solid mounts and they will last longer...

the seat clips are white plastic bits that clip on on the bottom of the seat and slide along the runners, you need to slide it off the runners at the back to replace them, its a common fault for these to break.

The basically clip over the part of the seat that slides in the runner to steady it.

RS2 Airbox is plenty loud enough as long as you leave out the bit behind the headlight which makes it quiet again

the wobbly seat thing is a common vag foible(sp?)

you need to replace 4 little bits of plastic on each seat base....

from what i can see on etka you need...

                    893 881 195 x 2

                    893 881 203 x 2

dont quote me on that though!

whip the seats off, bin the old bushes/clips, slide the new ones into place, put a little grease/lube on them and the runners, and your done.

takes about 10 minutes to do each seat.

Thanks for the replies! I think the seat wobble isnt as much from the base of the seat but more from the upright 'back' of the seat. But if the parts are really cheap i might as well get new ones and replace whatever are there presently.
Ordered a new central locking kit (as mine doesnt have a central locking key fob! Madness for a 30k car!)

What side is the front grille badge suposed to be on? Mine is on the passenger side, but I have a feeling it is suposed to be on the other side when looking at pictures of other S2s!

The exhaust underneath is in a terrible state rust wise :s, and the anti roll bar looks even worse! Is it an easy job changing the anti roll bar? And should I look at getting stronger ones or replace them with standard audi parts? Will wait till the exhaust starts blowing before I go down the stainless route, as I pressume it will be quite expensive to change!
Also, the rear calipers look like they were made of rust! And the brakes all round don't feel THAT great. What is the best stoping power per £ that I can expect to fit inside the 16inch Avus wheels? Would like to see some red calipers and drilled disks behind the wheels, but most pictures of brake conversions seem to be done on cars with 17"ers! Would get the S3 17inch Avus wheels if anything.

                      _phil

(ps- cheers in advance for any replies to my queries!)

I'm not the best to answer, as I'll always say "upgrade" as I'm addicted

The S2 badge can be on either side, I think it's the 3B generally that has it on the "wrong" side(?) - I know mine does at least.

I'd say go for the porsche upgrade, unless your specific about keeping the original rims - it's onyl about £500, and you can get a cheap set of 17" alloys with tyres for about the same again - I could be wrong, but to get good brakes under stock wheels you'd end up spending about as much as 996's + 17" rims together.

ARBs, they can be replaced on ramps but you may find troubles with knackered droplinks and siezed bolts. I did, and ended up in a garage to help me out. Cost me £30 labour to replace all droplinks, front + rear ARBs so not a biggie. Makes a HUGE difference, and will cost you IRO £200 for whiteline/RS2 arb combo + ~£70 for replacement droplinks. For more info, use search...

As per exhaust, you can go stainless 3" cat-back for IRO £400. I got mine done @ longlife and it looks/sounds great (is decatted too), and will be even better when the downpipe is done

Just be careful, coz once you've got all that sorted you'll be begging for a full RS2 upgrade...

                        Cheers

Yeah i can see how its adictive... I started off saying I'd just get Pauls engine chip and then my mates said that I just HAD to get a dumpvalve because I now have a turbo-car , and for £60 it would be rude not to, even if I just put it on for a while! And then theres the things that actually need changing, and then the things that 'make the car much better' and you can't stop! I can't see myself needing an RS2 Turbo

Hi. S3 17" Avus wheels will not fit the S2. However, Porsche 996 monoblocks will go under the 16" rims so no need for 17" rims (unless you really want them of course!).

Your car already has a dump valve - more commonly known as a recirculating throttle bypass valve - but if you want a noisey dump to atmosphere blow off valve it will just make the car run like cr*p ! :An RS2 turbo will also require RS2 exhaust manifold, RS2 injectors, RS2 intercooler (not essential tho) and a remap.

                              Hope this helps!

                              cheers
