Ive got a scoobie R\C nitro 1\10 scale which is rather quick ,my mates got an F G witha 21cc
engine .This thing shreads rear tyre in no time and they arent cheap and its 1\6 scale
My mates knocked about with these a few years ago and my mate pete had a road only HPI with 2 gears which done 96mph in a car park but as said at that speed it is out of range in 5 seconds. Great fun, but the uprated parts are a must

I have a Mini-Z, me and about 6 mates. We built a track in an attic with 2x4sheets of MDF and some blackboard paint for that authentic tarmac feel Great fun with a few beers and some time to kill
Nice models you have there, love the Cobra

Can anybody advise on batterys, are the HPI reciever and handset battery packs ok or should i upgrade to ones with a higher mAH rating? Getting very confused about what chargers you can/cant use etc
the stongest batteries are sold in USA only, and they are as cheap as the strongest ones here.
When i installed my battery pack i had to cut a whole in my casing so a cable can pop out for future re-chargine to save you fiddling with the case (you will see what i mean when you get the car, the radio case is a nighmare).
Discover the UK largest range of RC Cars, R/C Cars, Remote Control Cars, Radio Control Cars, Radio Controlled Cars and Plastic Model Kits. You will find popular brands such as Tamiya, HPI, Traxxas, Kyosho, Absima and many more. We also stock a huge range of spares and accessories.
you want a "Hump" batterie. the link is just a discriton and from usa you can get 1600 mAH ones (for around £30 i think). dont forget you will also need a charger for them (around £35 for one, get one you can use with you car lighter or it will be a show stopper)).
I need to get a Battery for Car(hump) + charger, rotostart battery + charger, and the remote battery + charger. So much for RTR Are the battery packs common for most makes and types of RC cars? I found some that look the same shape and size but don’t mention HPI or the type of connector on them.
Have the failsafe, glow plug starter, and afterun oil on order
Cheers, Mark.

Wow this thread takes me back, i used to build cars for customer for Beeties and race professionally around the midlands circuit only with electric cars though in the late 80's to mid 90's
Never had an IC car and have considered getting one for old times sakes
As mentioned, I dont administer that forum any more.
I think i still have an admin account on there tho, will take a look.
To answer your question, yes any make battery will do, they all have same connectors, so just make sure they are correct shape (hump) and the most powerful you can find.
Engine tuning can be very hard when your new to the game. 3 screws (refered to as needles), that need to be tuned in accordance to amount of smoke from exhaust (too much smoke running too rich, no smoke too lean) and the temperature of the engine, and also how the engine behaves.
For perfect tune you can overexadurate the symtoms of a poor tune by ideling the car at 15% throttle for 10 seconds then full throttle and the engine will overexadurate (for example if running too rich it will flood and cut out if above procedure is performed)
quick guide :
if running too lean, then the nitro is not cooling the engine properly and you could melt your engine (in very extreme situation). make sure at WOT you have a bit of smoke coming out. I got a temperature gun (point at engine and it tells you the temp) so after 10 mins run i can check weather its too hot or not. tunes will change depending on the weather condition as you would expect. The dvd that you will get with the car should explain most of this.
