    Challenge Churchill my a**

I thought I'd "Challenge Churchill" - based on their ad that "Guarantees to beat your renewall".

I put the figures in, and their quote was, wait for it, £414 MORE than Oiliphant!

I phoned up to complain that their advert was a lie, so they asked me what my renewall was, I said £500 and they said "we'll do it for £499".

Hang about, they just quoted me £914 and they're prepared to cut it by £415 at the drop of a hat? Makes you wonder doesn't it.

Needless to say i couldn't be faffed to change for £1, and I suppose that their £1 undercut offer over the phone means they didn't technically lie on the advert, but still, bloody hell, this sort of thing just really gets my goat.

I know Elephant isn't that well regarded amongst the modded-car fraternity, but my new car has no mods, so I'm going to stick with them, unless anyone has any better suggestions? I went on confused.com and that turned up with nothing either - closest match was almost £200 more than renewall.

    Insurance - bunch of tosh

totally agree! It just shows that their "standard" price mark up must be 1000%, it is amazing how they can just drop it when you phone up to complain. much the same with mobile telephone companies, you can play them off against each other, surely there should be just a set price and thats that, or you could have two people with exatly the same deal, with one paying anything upto £20-£30 more!!

I was in same situation with euro car parts. they wanted to charge me £120 ish for a part. When I said "no thanx its cheaper for OEM" they said,, ooo, hang about, i will drop the price to £55 (ish). well.. was you going to charge me 120 if I didnt refuse??

Have we GOTO complain/bargain/threat to leave just to get the "correct" price?

ummm, basically yes (certainly on the retention front...) Remeber you have spent the first year of any agreement paying off the acquisition costs so once you move into the seond year then the company is looking at a much higher margin if you do nothing. If you complain, theaten to leave, sight a coomptitive offer then you have a good chance of getting prices etc right down as they really don't want to loose you.
        Cheers

P.S. I flagged the Churchill Insurance flyer to ASA becuase they used the word guaranteed and its a load of B8888cks as I found when i tried to get them to prove it

It wouldn't be a surprise to learn that there's something in the terms and conditions that stipulates that the "Challenge Churchill" prices (etc) are only available to new customers.

There's always some "interesting" text that accompanies the adverts - things like "standard insurance underwriting rules apply" and "like for like basis only". Since my insurance has agreed price with repair all mods to mod (not factory) spec and discounted track insurance prices (should I ever feel the need), I'm kinda wondering what loophole Churchill would use to wriggle out of the Challenge promise should I ever feel depressed enough to try it.

            Ck.

give direct line a go on their website (red telephone on advert with 4 wheels).

im getting mine fully comp for about just over £400, and pay monthly with no extra cost.

only bad thing i found with them, was when i recently collected my billing raffle prize i phoned them to tell them about the brake upgrade . spent 5 mins over the phone telling the woman at their call centre brakes, not brake hp . she was convinced id had a brake hp upgrade.
