  • instrument illumination problem

Hi guys, quick question for you ...
Is there an obvious place where a problem would occur with the instrumentation illumination? None of mine lights up now, the clock does dim when the lights are witched on, but that is all...
Fuses are ok, and the dimmer switch makes no difference... could it be a faulty switch? or are there any secondary fuses hidden anywhere...
    thanks for your advice.

    Hi,

If its all the dash lights and aux gauges, step outside the car and check your number plate lights. The dashlights can be on the same 5A circuit as the number plate lights and it doesn't tell you that anywhere!
(ETA its in the main fuse box...)

No, unfortunately the number plate lights are fine, I did check through most of the fuses, as I assumed it had to be something like that for ALL the bulbs to go out....
I don't know if an alarm fitment in the past is to blame. The easiest thing might be to run new power wires to the said instruments if I can't find anything obvious....!
      Cheers

There is a little known booster circuit hidden behind the auxiliary guages which provides the illumination feed. It has a fancier name but I can't remember !

You need to get front part of centre console out to find this component (need to remove rear centre first from memory). I don't have 3B schematics yet, but its definitely there on ABY... Unless I am delusional !

          Yep, Paul is correct.
The relay is known as a "booster for dashboard lighting".

Part number 893 919 080 and it is present on all cars with the additional centre gauges.

So could this booster relay cause half of the lights in my instrument to be off?

Why, as far as I can see it is only connected to the yellow connector?
