I called Pete at White Cottage Quattros today as he said he would have the head off the car and we could discuss whether it was damaged or not and decide where to go from here. Bad news I'm afraid, apparently the head is severely erroded on the exhaust side but in the waterways, not in the ports.
As some of you know I've had a lot of waterworks problems lately, two or three radiators with leaks in the bottom near the bracket, after run pump, and water pump. With all this going on, particularly the leaks down at the bottom of the rad, the engine had boiled up a few times and on occasions has got seriously hot, I've just kept driving it, topping up with water and trying to fix things so there was probably no antifreeze in it for the last few months..
Anyway a new head is going to have to go on as this one is apparently pretty stuffed.
I'll take pics as soon as I can, at the moment I'm up somewhere by the Baltic
Maybe its time for some power upgrades

Any excuse to up the power tho, i mean why replace with OEM when aftermarket is soooo much more tempting

best get the head ported + polished, sort out those rods with the forged SPM variety

We have a head and the SPM rods and 7A ex cam will go in along with the 6 speed and the new(er) diff from Martinjs. I'll stick with the RS2 turbo for the moment maybe and get the mapping checked, it occurs to me that the car was mapped with an ABY airbox and paper filter and now has the RS2 box and BMC panel, maybe its been running a little lean, although the temperature has tended to sit below 90 most of the time except when low on water..
When you ride a litre motorbike you get used to leaving 500hp cars for dust..
