    vag com plugs

anyone have an idea as to why my vag com ports are not giving any reading when i plug the laptop in?.
i have blue and black plugs in my loom but no white plug which is for abs anyway.is there suppose to be a fuse for these ports ? any ideas would be of great help thanks

Its fuse 31 or 32 for the +12V feed on the black plug...

White plug is general purpose - not just ABS.

Blue plug is blink output from ECU only but I recall something weird about cars which have not got the white plug.

What chassis, electrics combination are we talking about here ?

I thought it was only the white/black you used. From memory the white plug is an odd one, i know on my ABY loom its a seperate piece, not sure how its wired but i'm fairly sure one side of it connects to the body.

OK looking at schematics for ABY (Edition 07.94)

T2x is the nomination for BLACK connector. Pin 2 on this carries +12V and I was wrong - it is Fuse 21 (twenty one) - same as afterrun pump. Wire colour on this one is ro/sw (red/black)

T2y is the BLUE plug. Pin 2 on this connects to Pin 22 (twenty two) on the ECU with a gr/br (grey/brown) wire.

T2z is the WHITE plug. Pin 1 is the 'L' wire coloured ws/ro (white/red white) to pin 13 (thirteen) on the ECU. Pin 2 is the 'K' wire (green) which doesn't connect to ECU.

So by my reckoning you should have the white OBD connector with a short green wire to a ring connector for the 'K' wire in the main fusebox.

You should also have a white wire and a white/red wire in a ring connector that connects to the ECU L-wire at pin 13 and the white OBD plug respectively.

Pretty sure the main fusebox is the location for these ring connectors where they connect to the OBD plugs... Cars with ABS, Airbags etc will also connect to these K & L connectors using additional ring connections. Just verified that by looking at the ABS, digital aircon and airbag schematics for the Audi 80 family... They all use the K wire for 2-way OBD comms.

          HTH,

Be very sure you've got the plugs the right way round - in a lovely piece of bad design, it's actually possible to connect the plugs backwards, even though the plugs, and sockets, are both allegedly champhered. Examine very closely and you'll see what I mean. I had this problem with my VAGCOM apparently not working, and then for some reason after that it genuinely did stop working, the laptop not seeing any connection - I know SteveID had the same issue. Must be something a bit whack about the whole setup to be honest.

so when i wired up the aby loom into the quattro fusebox shouldn't every thing regarding fault codes work automatically ? or do i have to splice open the wires and solder other bits into them ? also this fuse box is different to s2's and there isn't any mounting points for o ring connectors .i hate wiring

I have the same problem on my car.
Vagcom used to work fine but i tried it yesterday evening for over an hour, the only message i got was: ComPort Ok - Device not found or not ready.

I also tried every possible combination and direction... still nothing...

On my 3B the plugs are: Black - Brown - Blue. The OBD connector has two plugs Black - White.

Fist time i tried it it work fine, but now its just dead

Sounds familiar. I haven't managed to solve it.

You've possibly fried the input buffers of the ECU.

Does anyone know how the 2x2OBD plugs should be connected?

                      Connector:
                      • Black
                      • White

                      Car:
                      • Black
                      • White/Brown
                      • Blue.

I've just got a vag-com lead set from ebay (recommend link in the last week on here - direct from Hong Kong).

I've plugged it into my RS2 as seen below (sorry mobile pic):

Black lead is behind the white one, both connected as per their chamfered ends. But I get 'com port ok' - 'interface not found' in the software...

Tried with car running/just ignition, battery disconnected...and browsed Vag-Com site for info, but not had much luck.

Is it connected ok? I can't find the topic that linked to the Ebay auction, so I can't ask the person who has the same leads on his S2, to see if he had problems.

                            Help meeeee pwease....

I get the same problem but i can still get in on mine i go via the select option and find my faults unit by unit. If that makes any sense?
