    In Vag-Com?

Didn't know you had to calibrate a USB port in Windows?

I'm using version 512.4RD which came with the cable, do you think this has anything to do with it. I can't get access to any buttons until I've got the 'options' configured, which I'm unable to until I can get it to connect...?

        thx

Ducky, I guess you got it from the seller shzid on the link I posted a while back.

I dont think that lead is compatible with v512. Get rid of that one and install 4xx(works for me).

Firstly, dont select usb as the interface connection.

Make sure the device is assigned a com port, and you know the number. I have had my adaptor assigned com5 (Which vagcom cant use) and still i get 'interface found' on com3! I guess vagcom mistook another device on com3 as an odb connector.

If you want to double check the com port (assuming you have installed the drivers for the adaptor), go to my start=> control panel => system

Then on the hardware tab, goto device manager.

Expand 'Ports (com & lpt)' and look for usb serial adaptor

Right click on this one, then select 'Port settings' and advanced. There should be a drop down where you can select a com port. You can use 1-4 iirc, so pick one thats free.

Go back in vagcom, select that comport and then test. It should be ok now.

Let me know if your still stuck, or cant get the drivers to install.....

              Hey Ed,

Yes that's the guy, it came with a small cd which said '409' but the only .exe I could find (that made sense) was for v512.... I will have another look on the CD when I get home.

I had to reset the com port in windows to Com2, as the lead had been autoinstalled as Com9, so I think that side of it should be ok now; I'm guessing like you say the software is at fault. (if it helps, I installed the Adaptor v2 off the CD (non x64 one)).

I will try and find the v409 software and try again this evening.
thx for your helps peeps, will let you know if this resolves the problem.

If you cant find v409 on the cd, you can simply download it from the rosstech website

Hmmm, I can read engine fault codes and use the measuring blocks. Thats all I have needed so far. I dont think the free version lets you use the output tests. I dont think there is much else in vagcom of much use to us.

Quick Update!!!! It WORKS! Soon as I switched to version 409 it fired up no problems! I've been selecting Audi 80 as the model, so I'm hoping this is ok as its seems to read the controllers fine.

Glad to hear it! I have had two adaptors from that bloke. Both have been fine. Just a shame I lost one!

I got the lead from Shzid on Ebay, came with the 2x2 lead and the OBD2 one. If it's the same as mine I can't see why it wouldn't work, unless there is something different about a 3B motor. What software are you using, as I found out above it can make or break the link.

I was having a play earlier, the 'auto read faults' only goes as far as the Engine/ABS before the 'you must register' kicks in. (Even undoes a crack I tried )

But it's possible to use the controller detection, and then enter the controllers manually and check for faults. Long winded but you can do it.

                                @ s2dude...

The main difference between the leads we have, and the direct 2x2 adaptor is the way you tell vagcom to connect to it. I believe the direct 2x2 adaptor is recognised as a usb device in windows, and therefore usb is selected as the connection protocol in vagcom.

With the ebay ones, it uses an OBDII adaptor, which windows sees as a usb to comport adaptor. Therefore vagcom also sees this as a comport, and must be set up as such to work.

Make sure you have installed the usb to comport drivers (on the cd you get), then read my earlier post to ensure you are working on a comport vagcom can use.
