Worked for me, usually it is the predetermined thing of having something in your mouth that makes you smoke, I went the lolly route (did well for about 4 months then the divorce started and hey presto back to the cigies) going to give it another go now as the new girlfriend doesn't smoke!!!!! Keep it up girl you can do it

Buy a packet of twenty throw away 19 .every time you get the urge you know that you have one little friend left, and if you smoke it you have none,if you have none thats when the panic sets in, and we don't want panic so we don't smoke it.Every day it gets a little easier. Or you can smoke it an shoot your self in the foot. [First world war saying not that I am that old] But trust me it realy do'es work,or you could smoke your last little friend, and eventualy a bad back won't be your only problem.
the morning is my worst time, smell of coffee makes me NEED a cig
The helpful way to manage your cravings during the early withdrawal stages of giving up any drug is to change your routine completely.
The reason is that there are 2 mountains to climb in the withdrawal or 'cold turkey' process. These are the physical withdrawal and the psychological craving.
Physical withdrawal from a drug is initially the painfull/hard part, but only lasts a short time. With Heroin the worst is over in only a few days and with nicotine it should all be over in a week (longer but milder than heroin).
The psychological craving kicks in as you are going through the physical withdrawal and lasts much longer...maybe months or even years. This is the habit, the psychologcal addiction, the pattern, the 'doing something with your hands' the association. Call it what you will, but it is this that will make you keep trying to smoke again, long after your body has recovered from its physical dependancy.
The problem with the psychological craving is that it is continually re-awakened by association e.g. 'I always have a cigarette with my first coffee of the morning' or 'Every Friday I get hammered with my mates and smoke an entire packet'. This association is very powerful and true of all drug addiction. Take a heroin addict who always injected in his friends kitchen. A year after he gave up and is completely clean, take him back to his mates kitchen, where a needle and spoon are on the table....he WILL start to shake and sweat etc i.e. he will crave the drug!
Therefore, if you have a 1st coffee = cigarette association, drink tea when you wake up, then go to work (where I assume you cannot smoke anyway) and drink your 1st coffee there. Subtle changes in your routine (like invite your friend to your kitchen rather than going to his in the above example) will help to speed up the process of removing the associative cues for the drug.

P.S. If you complain about needing a first coffee in the morning I'll scream!! as firstly that shows addiction, secondly there is more caffeine in leaf tea than instant coffee and thirdly you need to give up coffee anyway.
