I did 290km/h in an ALPINA B10 which is based on a 540i 4.4 liter V8 and what was the most frightening was the noise from the huge 19inch very low profile tires. The front end was feeling very light and all the trucks on the slow lane seemed to be stopped so, all in all, I'm glad I did it once and it was a great experience...
I still want to see a needle at 305 km/h once in my lifetime so I can say that I did 300 km/h BUT I've grown older and less hot-headed so I think I'll do that on a closed speed ring now

Anyway you look at it, 300 km/h is VERY fast and even on a German Autobahn late at night, going over 250km/h is a bit reckless and unnecessary. Germany is the last safe haven for our turbocharged engines to stretch their wheels and if foreigners keep trying to hit 300km/h on their Autobahns, the ever-growing opponents to the derestricted portions of Autobahn will win in the end and everyone will have to abide by a blanket 130km/h speed limit
And I don't care about what Top Gear says "The only point of having Germany is for their unlimited motorways... If you take that away, what's the point in having Germany in the first place"
I know it's only meant as a joke but it's as preposterous as saying ( or hearing ) that the UK isn't part of Europe and that British pepole aren't European. Which are things I hear from time to time when I'm in the UK...

I prefer the sensation of oscillating between 160 and 230 km/h, playing with other Autobahn big guns if you're a bit lucky to fit in a high speed "convoy" and to be able to sit back, relax and just genuinely enjoy the experience of feeling safer at subsonic speeds with disciplined german drivers who are used to these speeds compared to driving at a boring 130km/h with morons all over the place "elbowing" each other for a spot in the fast lane.

    Sorry, rant mode off now
