Half way between main town near us and village, on very small road....
lots of steam suddenly eminating from front of the car...
Blown radiator was the culprit... Only problem was, I was on my own, no phone coverage, not room for 2 cars to pass...
After an hour of hard pushing (they are hard to push after a while on your own) I made it to a place where 2 cars could pass...
as I was on the road going to the village I asssumed that any cars going that way would indeed be going to said village, managing to get a message to my brother-in-law via one very friendly passer-by (my Romanian is not great, but muddled through) he came with his car - Dacia 1310 (1970's renault 12)
we attatched a rope and dragged it back to his house...That would have been a sight worthy of a photo, alas, no camera with me...
I set to removing the radiator to make sure it was definately the failed problem, skinning knuckles and swearing alot, finally extracted it and connected it to a hose and blocking the inlet/outlets I made a lovely sprinkler system...
Suffice to say, new rad on its way (2 weeks from Austria), still waiting for my Samcos to arrive, but on the bright side, imagine how happy I would have been if the Rad had failed AFTER changing all the pipes over, doing the thermostat, etc.....
Every cloud has a silver lining you know....!
