    Going to the Nurburgring?

Me and a mate are going on a road trip firstly to the Nurburg and then up to Switzerland. I know a lot of you have been to the Nurburgring so any advice on where to stay around there? Also is there a car hire place around the track? We were hoping to hire a nice 911 or something for the track
Also how long does it take to drive to it? Thanks

Hotel amTiergaarten for a place to stay, 95 euro a night for a twin room, superb accomodation and the Pistenclause bar/restaurant is great, get some Warsteiner in for me! Ringhaus or 75experience.nl are a good place to hire cars. It's a bit of a religious car experience, so be careful! Even my Mum has been PERMANENTLY affected!

yeah that hotel/resturant was fantastic...even though I stayed just up the road in Sabine's Fuchshoff (wouldnt believe my shock at hearing that slightly differently at reception )

TOTALLY unforgetable experience, already thinking about when i'll be going back. Don't discount taking the S2 out, really is like nothing you will have driven in your life!

        Enjoy

Word of warning, most of the companies out there that do race car hire say that if you break it, you bought it. Well that was the case with where we were staying anyway (Bergstube/Forsthaus). Have fun!

              I can recommend www.rent-racecar.de
We had a good (and cheap) experinece with them 3 weeks ago. Located 5-10 minutes outside Nürburg.

Personally, I'd stay in Adenau as there is more to do in the evening and the drive to and from the 'ring is great (lot's of roads and different routes to take). Last couple of times I've stayed at the Blau Ecké - which is right in the centre of town and had plenty of parking and also a couple of garages to store all your parts and tools in, plus good breakfast and a restaurant/bar downstairs.

Can't imagine why you would want to take an S2 half way across Europe and then not drive it on the 'ring - you'll have much more fun in a car that you are familar with!

With regards to time - we usually go Dover to Dunkerque on an 8am ferry and get to Adenau anytime between 3&4pm local time (including a few stops along the way) - so between 4&6hours from from when you get off the ferry, depending on traffic and how fast you are prepared to drive (and risk your car being impounded) through the hell that is Belgium.

I had a look the other day and discovered that you can get a train from London to Koblenz (nearest city, about an hour away) for £90 return if you book early and it only takes 4 hours on the Eurostar with one change @ Brugge.....I wonder if AVIS is still renting 996's...............

me and my mates are planning a trip to the ring in summer next year,so I`m interested in all the info that this thread is getting. We might take a ferry across to Ijmuiden first from Newcastle or take the fast crossing from Rosyth. Don`t like what I`m hearing about cars being impounded in Belguim....just have to keep the speed down Do you still have to put little stickers over your headlights for euro driving? Might be easier just to buy left hooker lens covers for the trip

The team I work for, takes a car from Australia for the Nurburgring 24 Hour each year.

We stay at the Blau Ecke right in the middle of Adenau. It is a beautiful old motel, great atmosphere, cold beer at the bar. I highly recommend it.

Don't think that you'll need to go through Belgium if you get a Ferry to Holland.

Everything about driving in Belgium is ****: the roads are awful, the driving standards are shocking, the Police WILL take your car if they catch you speeding and you can't pay, the petrol stations close at 6pm and you need a special Belgium Fuel Card to use the self-service pump. It's just an abhorent place to have to drive through.

On one of the first times we went we had to make a "break for the border" as we thought that we we in Germany and drove accordingly. Blue lights appearing in the mirror caused us to re-check the map only to discover that we were still in Belgium. Cue Smokey & the Bandit scenes as we had to drive at warp factor 9 for the next 5 miles or so to make it into Germany! Funny looking back but not at the time.....

Have a look in your owners manual if you have the epsiloid headlights, there is a a switch to change between driving on the continent and driving here. I didn't bother as we did no driving at night (we were all tucked up in the pub by the time the sun was down!).
