All good advice. Just reminded me of this guy here at work who has been caught twice, but simply 'files' the original letters. He's heard nothing for both charges, so has got off scot-free. Worth a try?

Im in a similar predicament, got caught doing 98 on a B road in the middle of nowhere on 18th dec last year, obviously i condone this sort of behaviour (the road in question has a 3 mile straight with no turn offs, no houses about etc, i got a bit carried away).
A small gatso had been setup in a bush and couldnt be seen. Anyway 2 weeks later i got a letter stating that due to the speed i was travelling i will receive a summons in due course, which i still have not had yet. Whats the time limit after the offence that the charge must be made.
Im now in new zealand so obviously wont be attending anyway.Comment

THink it also depends on the area you're caught in, i was caught a couple of years ago doing 102 on the A1M up north in County Durham and they have zero tolerance and everyone gets banned regardless by all accounts, but then other areas i know people have got off with a few points and a small fine for 110+
I didnt fight mine, i was in the wrong, it was my first offense and put my hands up to it in the hope that honesty would be the best policy and they'd respect me for not trying to wriggle out of it - SHould have fought it!
ENd of the day, whatever you get fined on the day isnt the main issue, its the Insurance implications afterwards - They dont like SP60 on your license!!
They can only punish you so far, so as said above, fight it, the worst that happens is you'll get what you would have anyway, best is you get off.
Real policing would be better than this machine stuff - would make it more random as to where they would be, but at least they can apply common sense to the situation.Ant

Yes was mobile camera - copper tucked away in the cutting in the bank and not visible, looking back i was stupid to have just taken it but there we go.
My ref to fixed cameras was more a general comment.
@ Martin, they need to file the paperwork there end with 28 days i think, but you may not receive for a period after this, as long as its processed there end within the timescale then its acceptable i believe.Ant

You need to recieved a NIP within 14 days of the offence unless its a hire or company car then they have up to 3 months to tell you, from there they have to issue you a summons within six months of the offence plus 28 days to get to you and this can either be for speeding or failure to give details of the driver.
If they mess up and dont get it all done and they are busy and not infalible in the six months you are free to... er... um... travel slowly again:mischeif:

Aye.. it's a ******* like! It was a mobile unit, and I spotted it from quite a distance too. Thought I'd slowed up enough. There was someone actually overtaking too on the approach to it. I even said to the burd that he's well fcked. I thought I'd braked in plenty time.. fack.
As I said previous in this thread though, is that I may try the approach of just ignoring it. It's worked twice for a dude here at work. They don't send out the NIP's recorded, just standard post. Worth a try?? Do you just keep sending it back unsigned hoping the pantomime will last six months aye?

Its good advice... altho I dont think they would be on here unless one of them owns a S series car
The scammers and the plod do surf pepipoo and sites similar and use this in evidents against them!!!
Better safe than sorry, leave out names and areas/counties!

I know 'someone' who ignored 2 NIP's before, both times got two letters a month apart, then no more contact. I don't necessarily recommend it as a course of action though. It's risky and you'll **** yourself every time the postman comes for 6 months... But it proves it can be done.Irvin
