At what rev's do you think its best to change gear,I use my ears, and instinct, but my mate says I rag it to much, and drive it like a non turbo car,to the max in each gear, it feels right, but I just wondered what you all thought.

Ultimately you want to get best use of the "area under the graph" (referring to a dyno graph), and take it a little higher in low gears to minimise lag on the shift.
For instance, in the 3B i took it to 7k in 1st (otherwise 2nd was laggy), 6.5k in 2nd and ~6k in 3rd and 4th.
Experiment a little, often it 'feels' quicker to hold to 7k in every gear but unless you're packing a big turbo it's not the case!AUDI - saving Dad's from minivans since 1994

About 6 - 6300 rpm if racing, but you can feel the car starting to hold back at the upper end so best to change and give it another go!
Generally though, you can make great progress using 3000 - 4500 revs...

I only use 1.st to get moving, then flooring it in 2.nd, 3, 4 and ease alitte off 5th and 6th. On my setup i have to keep the rpm high to get it to boost on the next gear (1,7bar @ 3800rpm), but i rarly/mostly don't hit the redline.Anders - S2 Avant Clubsport - 8pots or die!

Simple: If you know the rev fall after changing (let's say 1500 rpm) than look at your dino graph where the best spot of 1500 rpm of power and torque is to be found... You would be surprised how many people change gear way after the power graph has fallen... To bad I still haven't recieved the graph of the previous owner...
On my previous Astra turbo I found 5500 rpm the best point, it only falled back 1000 rpm so almost no lag after that. With the Audi I feel I really have to push it much harder to get it moving...Comment
