Yeah I think it's for off road type vehicles but there was also talk of other "gas guzzlers" ...which meant a lot of vehicles above a certain CO2 output, including a lot of people carriers and larger cars.
If anyone watched the programme on C4 a couple of weeks ago, about "The Great Climate Change Swindle", you'll probably realise that man-made climate change is all a pack of lies anyway... CO2 levels rise and descend in sympathy with global temperatures, about 800 years later...

Quite. And the more these looney leftties and even the loony right go on about climate change, the more my piss boils and steams...Yeah I think it's for off road type vehicles but there was also talk of other "gas guzzlers" ...which meant a lot of vehicles above a certain CO2 output, including a lot of people carriers and larger cars.

Not only that, the tax takes no account of how many miles you actually DRIVE in the car!
Put another 1p on fuel and abolish the administative joke that Tax discs are.

I watched a small piece of the programme Martin and it opened my eyes about the whole thing, it showed me just how easy it has been to scare people into thinking that if we dont follow what the government is telling us to do we will certainly destroy the planet, i understand that we are a very wastefull society and we all need to do are bit to conserve energy but for the government to say increasing Tax on most of the things they think contribute to globel warming will do any good is just another way to shaft us all.sigpicComment

I remember when it was always CFCs (Chloro-FluoroCarbons) that were being blamed for expanding the hole in the Ozone Layer, and that was enough to get them banned - nothing wrong with that.
Of course, there had to be a new threat, and man-made CO2 became the target!
This is the kind of debate that can make enemies of friends and I don't really like making enemies. But I am more convinced by the arguments that the aforementioned programme put forward than any previous argument.
Particularly given that the doom-mongers always say that "every scientific expert agrees that man-made climate change is real" - which is a total lie, a huge number of the experts listed do not agree, but someone decided to keep their names on the list - one took legal action to have his name removed. There was even a founder-member of Greenpeace among the people who do not agree.
More telling, perhaps, is that there are over 10,000 people now employed as "Environment Correspondents" or "Environmental Reporters" - all of whom would lose their jobs if someone actually stood up and said "nah, it ain't happening". So they come out with ever more outrageous stories of what is about to happen to us all, to justify their jobs.
The biggest laugh of all was the mention in the past week or so that a so-called expert claimed to have noticed that "the legs of crocodiles have been getting longer as a result of climate change" ....does he really think that evolution happens that quickly?!!
Enough said!

After all that has been written here, and I am not a tree hugger, I still would suggest that those who still believe that climate change is nothing to worry about to watch the Oscar wining documentary "An Inconvenient Truth"...
But what pisses me off is that everyone blames the auto industry when cars only contribute to 8-10 percent of CO2 emissions as cars engines are getting so "clean" compared to older engines...
A coal powered power plant built 30 years ago is still as inefficient but no one would ever dare to put a catalysor on it !
It's also been proven that if you trade your car for an electric one, if the electricity source you use isn't nuclear, then you actually pollute MORE as the power comes from "dirty" sources such as diesel or coal.Midnight Blue S2 - SOLD - 1993 S2 AvantComment

There are two facets to the problem/debate - Firstly the climate change / carbon emissions issue but secondly ,and just as important in my mind, the whole issue of fast depleting stocks of fossil fuels that are available to the western world. Our natural gas is drying up and we are now a nett importer. Our Oil wont be far behind, leaving the country at the mercy of those states that do still have supplies (ie middle eastern countries and Russia). Politically, being reliant for our fuel supply on countries that we have not historically been 'best mates' with (to say the least) will leave us rather open and exposed. Just look at the Russians doubling the gas supply price to Georgia some months back then turning off the pipeline when the Georgians couldn't/wouldn''t cough up. Unless we fancy treatment like that then we need to think about where our fuel is going to come from in the future and how much we can waste now. Fossils fuels will not actually run out, they will just become too damn expensive to burn.

A colleague passed this link to me. Interesting... Especially the letter at the bottom from Carl Wunsch Professor of Physical Oceanography, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he says that his views were completely misrepresented in the programme.
