If I save £5000 a year when will I be able to afford a RS4?
My best guess is that in 5 years time a RS4 would be about £25000. Therefore I would have saved £25000 at £5000 a year. What do you lot think? Do you agree that in 5 years a new car will halve in value?
Sorry, should have specified. The latest RS4. A 2007 model.
Kind of hard to predict as it depends on residual used car prices for prestige cars at that time.
Though I would say a 97 RS4 may be worth more than £25k in 5 years time. Nearer £32.5k +/- £2.5k...though I may be wrong here!!
For sure, if the government starts putting a real squeeze on big cc high emissions cars then their value will plummet as popularity will decline.
This would be a good scenario for us enthusiasts though running costs would be even more steep I imagine
Imagine petrol at say £2 per litre

This thread on PH reckons that CAP Monitor is predicting the B7 RS4 to retain 58% of its value after 3 years / 30 000 miles which puts 'em at about £29 500.
Audi's have about as good a residual value on the used car market as you can get, and S/RS models have an even better residual value at that.
The RS2 is a different kettle of fish compared to a series 1 RS4. Audi main dealers still stock Series 1 RS4's but the RS2 is more of a collectors model especially as it's now almost considered a classic being over 10 years old, and as the RS2 was a collaboration with Porsche, it will always fair well for resale value as long as it has being maintained and not ragged to death!
I'd say stuff getting a Series 2 RS4 cos by the time you've got enough money to buy one, you'll want the RS5 anyway!!
I'm not overly sure why you want one? are you happy with 400BHP and fairly low torque??!!
I've got to agree they look, sound and handle well to the point where I put a deposit down but after investigation on tuning with the like of Mike at DMS and Kim at QS with regard supercharging etc... nothing happening bar a small chip tune so i pulled the deposit!:mischeif:
The B5 RS4 is much more tunable, anything turbo'd is the way to go
Hmmm in Denmark a brand new Audi RS4 is 170.000£ , ohhh yeah you gotta love the 180% tax the add on the cars here
It must be nice to be able to buy a RS4 for 25.000£, i paid 14.600£ for my s2. That was 5600£ for the car in Germany and then I had to pay 9000£ to the goverment in tax to get it on danish plates.

What the f***!!!!.....
I thought Canadian government was bad!!...I was wrong!!...
I have to say that, whilst impressive, it was not as fast as it needed to be for that kind of money.
Sounds lovely over 5.5K rpm and pulls without a perceptible decrease in acceleration all the way to the redline (so much so I was off the rev-limiter a number of times in the first few minutes) but the associated torque in the mid-range is appalling.
Maybe I'm just used to a geared-down ZX12R which accelerates from 50-150 in ~6secs but you have to stir the gearbox to take advantage of the power inspite of the big displacement.
It looks awesome, and for transporting 4 people down to the Alps for a weekend snowboarding you couldn't do any better (as long as it was de-restricted!), but in terms of outright performance, it didn't do it for me.
Turbo-charged cars are the way to go.
I'd be interested in a speed-through-the-gears comparison of a B7 RS4 and various tweaked S2's/B5 RS4's. I hazard a guess there isn't much difference.
