    Worst car ever driven?

An open question to the forum here, what's the worst car you've ever driven?

This question is triggered by my experience of hiring a car the other day. A 2007 Nissan Almera with 3000km on the clock. This gets my vote for the worst car I have ever driven.

Absoloutley appalling car. Gearbox was as sloppy as chicken gravy, the steering was completely un-attached to what was happening to the wheels, and bizarrely, the PAS got heavier the slower the car went. It was ridiculously noisy, over 100km/h the wind whistled around the bodywork like an old Volvo 240. The engine was as rough as a bag of spanners and was about as keen to rev as a dried slug. The ride quality was like driving over a never-ending series of tree stumps and the handling was, well, understeer at 20km/h anybody? The quality of the internal materials in the dash was like something you've not seen since the 1960s, the seats were rubbish and the aircon was either freezing, or off. And finally, the brakes, they were so over-servoed as to be ridiculous - they were either full on, or off, nothing in between.

To its credit, the boot was quite large and it didn't seem to use much petrol, but then I didn't get it over 120km/h as I was too worried about my own personal safety from driving such a barge.

Unbelievable to find such a genuinely all-round awful, new car, in 2007. Worse even than the 2005 Vauxhall Vectra I had as a hire car a few years ago.

Anyone else got some horror stories to share?

Citroen AX. I`m 6,6, and i had to drive it something more than 100km. The seat fully back, my back-top of the head stuck in the roof. i had no place to put the legs, so the steering wheel was rubbing against my jeans all the time, and i couldnt turn the (non servoed) steering wheel around with my hands on, cuz my legs were in the way. the pedals were so small and close together, that i had to push the gas pedal with the right edge of the foot, but sometimes i hit the brake pedal too... and everytime i wanted to push the brake pedal, inevitably i hit the clutch pedal too. i passed all the time driving thinking what would happen if someone crashes into the car. im never again touching one of that coffins.

You been out in my car then Corey

My worst was a Hyundai Lantra estate hire car to drive from Guildford to York then back via Stoke on Trent. Gutless wonder with all the bloody controls on the flip side of any car i have ever driven.....actually the equivalent of owning a nokia and then being given a Motorola The number of times I let the world know where i was going at the junction by flicking the wipers onto full speed Not only that but two fan adjustment knobs came off whilst adjusting and the clutch pedal seemingly didnt have a biting point, just on/off making hill starts a treat.

The only other car which was so crap was my old managers Pug 405 which he tried to kill off in an attempt to get a new car. he drove it across a field in worksop, Notts trying to break it and we drove over 30 miles just forcing the gears in without clutch asistance.....stil couldn't break it. in the end he had to keep it a further 18months before he got rid of it for a........vectra

Every American car I ever touched. Hummer H3, all Dodge cars and SUVs, Ford cars and SUVs, everything Chevy. Lets not forget all the little Hondas, those Sion Toyota boxes. KIA and Hyundai takes the cake for cheapness. BTW I used be a mechanic, so that’s how I got to drive all of these wonderful cars. (Although they drive like look and reflect their poor quality in every aspect)

A 1300 MG metro engined mini.

Getting it to go in the right direction was a skill of its own.
The steering shaft was worn on the spline down near the pedals, sometimes the wheel would turn 360 degrees before engaging........

The gearbox was knackered, no syncromesh, so getting it into first was usually a case of starting the car in gear and kangarooing down the road.

The bucket seats were too narrow for me. I had to sit on the side rails of the seat.
(Either that or my backside was too big )

I only had to endure this pain for 12 days though, the MOT ran out after that.
Sold the car to my uncle who rebuilt it and got a picture and a little story in Miniworld magazine.

                              Matt.
