OOOh that has maybe swung me. I did some calculations...

    60miles per day, 5 days a week = 300miles = £60 (full tank)

    £60 x 46 weeks working = £2,760 in petrol costs!

So, if someone could break down what their 80TDi costs them to run, that would be great!

Plus, I'm 21 (22 in sept) so insurance isnt gonna be great for me! Also, I'd have to declare that its business millage, which I guess makes it worse?

Cheers again for all the replies,

    Phil

        Cheers

Got a new idea.... take the S2 off the road for a few months, get all the little jobs done on it, make it perfect... sound good?

And obv get a new car to drive round in!

I'm using a clio as my second car as I drive to and from North Devon every day (125 miles a day). No traffic, all country roads but they haven't beeen resurfaced in decades. The route is a real car breaker and I could see the S2 falling apart and the fuel consumption would have been horrendous.

I'm averaging 43mpg with the clio (1.4 16v) and work pay me 33p/mile so I do quite well out of it. Stating that I only use the S2 for social purposes has also brought my insurance down about £100.

Good work on the job with Denso btw!

A diesel would be highly reccomended. I had a company focus with a TDCi in it and was getting 50mpg easily!!!

Your S2 has got quite low mileage hasn't it??? I'd try and keep it that way if I was you!

                Try These?

                My tuppence worth.

An Audi 80 Avant TDi or a 2.0L 16v Avant in Titan Grey or dark Metallic Blue, Swop bits/hand me downs between one of these and the S2, brakes, wheels, seats, bumpers, lights etc.

Or the other alterantive, a 5 Dr Mk 2 Golf 8v in silver or Oak Green / a black or Silver big bumper Mk 2 8v or 16v Jetta, (cheaper than a Golf everytime).

Buy whatever car you wish, (obviously) but it should be mechanically perfect, or easily made so by visits to he replace/fix all bits of trim mirrors etc. with items from the breakers yard. Any new bits from German & Swedish.

Car should be in good condition and cheap, rather than a bad one even cheaper. Pick a high spec one if there's a choice, more pleasure on a day to day basis. Too much effort to retro fit c/l, e/m similar stuff to a beater.

Best wishes and kind regards, let us all know what you end up buying, and how you get on with it, the thread makes for interesting reading so far!

                  I shall do!

Cheers for all the replies too, keep them coming!

A £500 Mondeo estate 1.8TD ghia, lots of extras just ended on ebay... looked great for the money! Towbar and all, could tow my kitcar too when shes done!

Will keep looking. Am litterally just going on car sale sites and seeing what diesel estates I can get for £5-800 and then watching the items on things like ebay to see what sort of prices to expect!
