The cost of optional extras!

Just come across this old price guide from 1991. Thought some of you may find it interesting, especially when you look at some of the costs of the optional extras for the S2! nearly £1500 for the leather interior and £1100 for a bleedin' sunroof!!!

Love seeing this kind of stuff. I've got a period copy of Autocar with a full road test of the urS4 along with a list of options. Amazing to think that the original owner paid nearly as much for the optional extras as I did for the entire car.

yep, great post....i see mine had £3500 worth of extras (a/c, sunroof & pearlescent paint)

To put things into perspective, at the recent launch of the A5 and S5 the cars were priced as follows (2007) A5 3.0 quattro, with £3000 worth of options... £38,665.00. Audi S5... £46,500.00. (screen prices).

I have the original invoice for our 1993 S2 Estate and it was £36,000. That shows how much the price of modern cars has dropped.

The 'list' price of the last RR's was £33,995.00, in 1991.

All things being equal, that would make it (and S2's) the equivilant cost of an R8.

(Incidentally, we were at the A5 launch as the ur was required)

presumably, that's the cost of the basic R8 before you have to add on the £15k worth of optional extras on top just to make it driveable!!!

Cool thread - out of interest would anyone know how much the three spoke airbag steering wheel was ? I think it may have also been an option on the ABY.

Just had a look at the Retail Price index now compared to what it was in July 1991, and in today's money a brand new S2 would cost a whopping £45401.07! Almost exactly the cost of an S5.

Was cruise control an option on the '91 model.

Good point dont know, it was an option for CQ20v's and they were made 89-91. AFAIK it was standard equipment on US spec cars too.

I asked that at Billing as someone asked me what the bracket was, from the turret to the bulk head and I said it is where the CC pump sits on an ABY.

The 3B has a battery there and no obvious blaces to site the pump, but it does have the little ball on the throttle linkage which the connecting rod attaches to. We assumed that the throttle linkage is the same for all 5 cyl engines and no one had seen CC on a 3B.

Anyone on here with a 3B and CC?
