    Flashed going towards speed camera??

    Hi all

Cant believe went down the road and went towards the speed camera, not even thinking about 36 MPH and got flashed.

I never knew that cameras could flash at you, I know loads of cameras which never do it and loads of people who just fly on through them.

Think I'll be more careful in the future.

Do you think I will still get fined and points or is it just to warn you, I thought they couldn't flash you when your oncoming??

    Thanks

Depends on the type of camera and road markings! If there are similar road marking at either side of the camera then yes, they can flash you in any direction. Reason being is they can craftily rotate the camera from one direction to another! (say eastbound to westbound traffic flow!) They frequently change the direction of the camera's on my local bypass just to cause more caution or maybe more revenue!

From what I knew I thought you could be caught speeding driving towards certain camera's BUT not flashed as you could argue it could have caused an accident. Was anyone going the opposite way to you as someone might have got flashed at the same time as you.

IIRC they have around 2 weeks to send you out your own personal picture of your car and yourself. If not then I don't think they can do anything, might be wrong but think I remember that from somewhere else.

If it's a standard 'gatso' and has flashed in your face, rather than at the normal (other carriageway) and rear of the car direction then the chances are, you happened to be either...

        a) approaching a camera when someone else passed it in excess of it's set speed in the other direction.

        or

        b) you approached it above its excess speed and the field of vision covers both carriageways rather than just one. I believe the cameras will be set up to record for prosecutions in one direction only.

Don't quote me on this... But I think you'll probably be okay.

Yeah its really weird it was a Gatso camera which is the most common ones on the roads.

There was no other car even in sight, I drove at the camera facing me and it flashed me.

          Hopefully im alright.

Just to put my 2p's worth on this!!! Are there lines on both sides of the road where the camera is heading towards the camera and away from the camera???

There is one loike this on the A34 from stone to stafford at the bottom of the main hill by the school. The bad news is if there are lines on both sides and the camera is cental to those lines it can actually catch you in both directions up to a certain speed. The speed heading towards to evade the camera is in excess of 150mph and the speed heading from the camera (i.e. rear photo) is in excess of 184mph. These are the only ways that you cannot be caught by them.

If however the camera is on one side of a road i.e single carridgeway on the left and you are heading towards the camera it is a distorted speed due to the angle of the "speed findin equipment (lazer)" and you should not be caught by it.

I remeber doing a whole physics project on this to do witht he speed of light and rebound etc when I was doing "a"levs.

If it was a Gatso, you will be fine. I do it all the time for fun. You cannot be done because there are no lines and "they" are not allowed to flash you head on for obvious safety reasons....

                Sleep soundly.

If you get flashed on a front facing camera, on a motorbike it does not matter.....Generally pop it onto the back wheel and sail by

There are an increasing number of front-facing cameras sprouting up though - they look different to the usual GATSOs we're all familiar with.

If you're going to get caught, they've got 14 days to send you something. Sit tight...

truvello's i think are the ones which can get you from the front without a flash and there is only one solid line across the lane being monitored (have these on the A1 south of Peterborough through the roundabout sections and some villages with the A1 going through them....Usually painted blue and yellow IIRC

Sounds like you will be fine

There's a Truvelo on the A249 at the bottom of the hill going coast-bound where they've dropped the speed limit to 50mph.

AFAIK the only speed camera's that don't 'flash' you are currently on trial in London. Infa-red style camera's. The remaining camera's are supposed to flash.

There is currently a debate ongoing about the 'non-flash' camera's as you have no idea of being caught out until you get a nice letter on your door mat! But Gatso's arguement is (and the police, government etc) that you shouldn't be speeding in the first place!

It's all about the police services gaining revenue from this as the government keep making cut backs to the emergerncy services.

A speed camera was originally only supposed to be in situ at accident blackspots where i think its 3 or more fatalities in 3 years?!?!

But now there are everywhere, on long straight roads where there has probably never been an accident but a good place to catch speeding drivers for extra income.
