I think they are referring to the lift the front axle off the ground towtrucks, it will tow but you’re going to be seriously overworking the center diff which could overheat and do damage. It’s the difference between getting towed off a motorway in an emergency or getting a tow home for 100 miles. Short distance ok, prolonged towing isnt.

Again only an issue if you have one axle off the ground, with all four wheels on the ground it’s no different to freewheeling out of gear.

ok - thanks Macca i'm now more confident about towing, but i think i'll play safe.

How about if i tow it approx half way, about 20 miles, then stop for a couple hours, then continue onwards and do the other 30 odd miles - best of both worlds.
If i take it steady at 30 mph that should be ok you think?

I've asked in the tech section so maybe a bona fide gear geek will answer from a technical perspective - i think would be a useful question to have answered on here, as the search found nothing

Just to be certain here do not use rope to tow the car as it is illegal now to do so... has to be ridgid bar of some kind

        Cheers

Get an A-frame for this if you can... Thats quite a distance to be towing without a proper car trailer and I wouldn't use a rope or single bar.

It did cross my mind to get / make an a frame, but then surely i'd need to tow from the centre of the frame - i have no tow hitch or i'd rent a trailer So the aframe would pull the towed car off centre surely?

You’re not going to believe this, my dad blew a coolant hose in his S4 and got stuck about 20miles from home. .....you guessed it i just had to tow him home using a rope!!!

I used the bar yesterday to bring home my run around car a lil 106 quiksilver...
You do need a 2nd person to assist with the steering and a bit of braking will help...It's alot better than using the good ol' rope, but you can expect to be fighting against the steering at times when turning and slowing down rather quick..Or maybe that was just down to how light the pug is

I to would like to get clarified whether it would be safe to tow my S2 using an A frame.
I'll have to travel approx 150 odd miles or thereabouts, any suggestions?

Or plan B drive it back:mischeif: But it wont start due to slight front end damage which caused a busted hose pipe?...I have no further knowledge what pipe it is...i've been told its near the rear of the engine
