Dear IT gurus!
A mate had a CPU burnout failure so he bought a new PC, he was running win 2K before. The new machine has Vista. I put his old hard drive in my machine as a slave and copied all his docs and stuff onto a stick, found the "identities" folder where outlook keeps all the email folders and got them too, got the address book..
went over there and put the folder on his desk top. doc files and pics etc were fine, address book when opened popped up with a dialog box and migrated itself to the new mail prog, cool I thought. Tried to do the same with the email folders but no go, tried importing them into the mail prog but seemed to get so far then says no valid files found, I'm not sure I'm doing this right.. Also there are 2 mail progs on the Vista machine, some kind of outlook style prog and a thing called windows mail which is the one he has started using for email, even though the address book is present on the tool bar of this app. the email addys don't auto complete unless there is a mail in the inbox for that person.
I tried to find the identities folder but it wasn't in the user file, it was hidden so I did "show hidden folders" and I could see it but not open it, was told I'm not allowed to. Bloody nanny OS...
I thought I could just drop[ the email folders into that folder but maybe not.. Or, another thought, do I have to be logged in as admin?
Any help would be appreciated!
