    Ross' Beloved S2 Disaster

Okay folks, poor Ross is quite down-hearted atm. I need you guys to give him a bit of support! (There's only so much I can do, *pat his back, give him a kiss...etc etc* You guys can truly empathise I'm sure.)

    So here's story:

Ross takes his car to Corey, who is highly experienced in the Audi machanics. Ross posted a thread to keep you all update on his "Project Avant++".

Altho suspicions were raised after 3 months and no car...Ross Finally got his hands on his beloved S2 Audi on Saturday 22nd Sept. He drove the 3 hour route home and got there safely.

All seemed good when Sunday 23rd rolled by. On his way to Gloucester, to visit moi, Ross experienced some rather....awful car troubles on the M4.

Blue smoke emitted from the exhausted, loud banging noises could be heard from the bonnet and the car juddered to a halt and sort of died. Poor Ross was stuck on the side of the motorway, in the freezing cold and merciless downpour of rain...waiting for AA.

*sigh* Yesterday was a very sad day.

Still, I have to express my thoughts here. I might not know too much about cars or specifically Audis. However, my dad taught me a thing or two about engines and personal experience taught me how things can go wrong.

My parents had a Volvo estate and took it to a garage to have a new engine put in. The guys at the garage advised against this because a new engine in an old machine is a bad idea. Granted, if you replace the break pads, do some fine tuning and other adjustments to the rest of the parts, in theory, the car should keep up with it. Unfortunately it didn't work out for my parents - and it most certainly didn't work out with Ross' car either.

The reason why I never said anything before was because I didn't think it was my place, I mean I could hear you all shouting "What does she know?" "Go do your hair" etc etc. *absent-mindedly plays with hair*

I'm curious to know what the guys were thinking when they attempted to place a powerful engine in a tired old car. -*smirks, I can already hear the retorts in response to that sentence*

This thread is just an oppitunity for everyone to discuss the situation and give Ross some support!

Im very sorry to hear about this engine failure of Ross's S2.What went wrong??? The S2 was build by fine mechanics...shame!

For me it comes down to knowing what you have to do to make things work and take the time to make them work right. We have seen many mistakes in parts measurements and forgotten 'things to do' that took a nicely new engine to criples because not everything was looked after,OR sometimes even a new item is presented with a defect(nowdays everything being remanufactured and reconditioned and all..)

Since my engine rebuild,i have done 10000Kms and thank god i didnt have any issues with the engine itself. It does what it is supposed to do after all this work that has been done to it.Now since this engine has electrical stuff attached to it that hasnt been changed,my only concern is how well they can handle without presenting new problems.

A loose screw a few days ago drove me nuts (again) trying to figure out what is wrong with the car.Sometimes the solution is right in front of you and you just dont see it.

I hope Ross can have the patience to fix this again, and also let us know what went wrong this time.
    Keep it up Ross!!

As for you Laura....im hoping you havent decided to commit suicide yet.I know from my fiance that dealing with this car, tends to drive a couple nuts...keep it up yourself!

Car has just landed back with us just now.
Cause as yet unknown but we shall report on our findings to Ross.
We are as down heartened about this as Ross has had a lot of bad luck (with the green coupe and now this avant) that despite doing the best we can things just keep going wrong for him.

Chin up dear boy, it'll be right in the end.

Yeah this whole car business has put a stress on the relationship, but we're both determined to get through it.

Thanks for all the comments everyone, I'm sure Ross will release a statement soon. (ha, I sound like his PA)

The S2 is a proven stable platform for big power - Ross' coupe ran 427 BHP well enough and that was a few years older than his Avant.

                        Quite.

However, as far as I'm aware, the coupe had it's original engine in it. Even if it didn't, you should know better than I, that every car is different.

*ponders on that thought* Car really aren't simple machines....

feel for you on this one. its a real pisser. it could be one of many things.

new engine in old car can olny be better than old in old. problmes start when the old is removed more often than not and wiring is moved and potentially damaged etc

i have seen engines that have blown due to poor bore tollerence/bad workmanship, bad driving (lifting off the gas and running down from over 100) and bad luck. id say bad luck is the most rare and can usually be attributed to one of the other 2.

                            Cheers all,

This one's been a rough ride and it's not over yet... car is back to Corey, we've had a chat and will determine where fault lies later. Most important part is finding out what went wrong and determining where to go from there. Have to stress that i was perfectly happy with the car and despite the misfortunes we've had along the way the engine was looking, feeling and sounding fantastic. We're both gutted there's another pitfall but we'll get through it.

Have to say it's stressful but I've consigned this to be a more 'long term project' now and that eases the pressure. I'll update more later, work beckons,

                            Later-
