make sure if you get one the turbo's have been well looked after, just replace both turbos on an rs4 - atleast 20hrs work if you no what your doin which if your paying someone else will be quite expensive
that aside, fantastic car and awsome noise!!! with the right suspension will wipe the floor with most things you come across - dare i say it even an s2

Sal took me out in his 1.9 tdi (think he said it was a pd engine) estate last night and boy can he drive, grips well and goes well I made sure my seat belt was on and didn't look like he was hardly trying with it.

As has been said the turbos are problematic. I got a quote for the RS4 (ko4) turbos to be fitted to my s4 from mrc. The price was £3200 all in. Once my ko3 turbos blow this will be the route i take. They are great cars and do ike mine. It is more refined but that was the reason behind me buying the S4, power plus the refinement. I have the quattro for pure driving experience at the moment.3'' Longlife Exhaust, Koni Adjustables, H&R Springs, Full RS2 Setup with Mr Nugents RS2 Chips

Was great meeting you too though I was very short on time and by the time we had finished the two laps with David, you had all headed back for the fort so couldn't say bye. Left a message for all of you on Andy's cell phone though
Hope you can come some other timew or maybe we'll meet again at the Billing Meet.Midnight Blue S2 - SOLD - 1993 S2 AvantComment

James - you won't be disappointed with a B5 S4!
Totally different drive to the S2 and, as said above, a lot newer 'feel'. More oomph out of the box and all the tunability of the S2.
The scare stories of turbos popping are generally exaggerated - a well looked after car will give you many more years of care-free motoring. Most of the money that has gone into mine after nearly 3 years of ownership has been voluntary mods, with relatively minor real problems. But if you have the modding bug, you'll soon be at home with an S4...
The £3k+ mentioned above for a K04 (RS4) turbos upgrade doesn't just relate to the turbos, but other bits & pieces such as injectors, fuel pump, clutch, and remap.
Whilst replacement of the turbos is an engine-out job, it's not true to say that access to most of the other engine components necessitates this. Incidentally, MRC are very deft at taking these engines in and out - it doesn't need to be made a meal of...
The prices of the cars have come tumbling down recently and can be bought for as little as a late low mileage S2.
Finally, as stated above, RS246.com has a wealth of information

Well i found a S4 BUT.....
Going to get insurance is a no go as they wanted £1500 and thats what a paid on the S2 when i was 19/20.
My fathers insurance company will insure the car for £320 but to be a named driver you have to be 24, and i am 22

So andy you getting that like james as a second car or you getting rid of your s2?
@ james - thats not good, have you asked them how much it would come down/if it would if you did the stuff like pass plus etc and asked of any other ways of dropping the insurance down, i.e. remove the engine every night.Comment
And that's just to take the engine out and put it back in again, not the repair..."
