My A3 has started playing up a bit !
When I come to a stop (junctions, give-ways etc) the tickover drops to almost stalling point and rises and falls for a couple of seconds then settles down to a normal tickover

Any ideas anyone ? What should be the first thing I should be looking at to rectify this ?
I'm assuming its a sensor of some sort but which one ?
For what this cost me so far I could have bought an S2

Can you pull codes? If it was the S2 I'd be checking ISV and MAF connections.

Mine does the same. Did a bit of digging and most likely the ISV which can be cleaned out though haven't got round to doing it yet.

ISV on a 1.8t 20v turbo??? You need to pull the codes 17705 is common split pipes below manifold. Also a clean and TBA can work wonders. The other common one is the oil pressure switch on the PAS pump failing. Conduct a full auto-scan and let us know what you get.

come to think of it a AEG is a 2 litre 8 valve N/A lump. AUQ is a 20v turbo.

No I'm pretty sure it's a AEG lump but I'll check in the morning.
                  It's def not AUL !
1.8 20v with the sought after big valve head !

Aeb im pretty sure were only used in longitudal mounted vag cars eg passat etc. The large valve head was an auq used in octavia vrs a3 etc. Regardless they are all pretty much of a muchness.
Once you have the codes post them. The power steering pressure sensor is common but then so are vac leaks on 1.8t.

This will teach me to get the correct details BEFORE I post a thread !
                          Sorry guys

Forgetting about pulling codes for the moment (I do not have Vagcom so need to arrange with someone that does)

What should I be looking at first ISV & MAF ?

They dont have an isv mate. Dont worry about maf either just yet. You can see what the maf is reading on vcds as they rarely give a fault code. There must be someone in bristol area that can fault code it.
