  • B5 RS4 died again

    Just like it did when the fuel pump went last month but this time the pump is running and will fill a jerrycan in about 2 mins if hot wired.
    It’s not a dead crank, it will actually fire and spin a few revs but die immediately every time it’s cranked.
    Vagcom says no codes.

    Thinking I need to check fuel pressure in case FPR is bad?
    Maybe a split in a hose inside the tank?

    Luckily I was only 1/2 mile from home this time and had a tow rope in the boot so my lad came out and towed me in.
    Getting the **** with this car now.

    It's not the immobilizer?
    That will let it start and then shut off after about a second or so.

      Can you test fuel pressure at engine side after the fpr?

        Ran the pum for 5 secs then cracked the line at the fuel rail, normally this would spray out but no, just a weep, no pressure.
        So pulled the pump again. (I hate that job)

        This is the brand new piece of pipe supplied with the new pump, obviously not up to the job!

            At least you know whats wrong, even if it is 5hit to get duff parts that are brand new..

              Yes and it’s an easy fix.. just need to find the correct hose that will deal with the pressure and modern fuel.

                  I’m using Esso E5 which is actually E0 but that doesn’t mean I won’t occasionally need to fill with E5 or E10. It’s not just the Ethanol anyway, modern fuels have all kinds of octane improvers and detergents in, it’s not just friendly old petrol any more, I mean it doesn’t even smell like petrol used to.

                      Change the hose clips as well, they look like the shocking cheap rubbish that comes with parts from china. Fit a proper hose clip made by jubilee and it will hold properly and without damaging the hose. Saying that, it doesn't look like the clip has caused the problem with your hose but still worth doing.

                        Yes, they’re not the worst (the ones that actually don’t go tight but just click round and round) but not the best for sure.
                        I’m waiting for some 5/16 Gates submersible fuel hose to arrive and an 034 billet pump mounting kit (from the US) which will allow the Walbro pump to sit lower in the tank than it is right now. Then I will do the job again properly!

                              The OEM clamps I bought in the past were also Norma.
