Took her for an MOT today in the hope that the boost leak would cure the rich running..........alas no joy. I'm not sure it's ever passed a UK MOT after being mapped
CO was 7.2% and in the UK it needs to be 0.3%
The tester feels too much fuel is being injected and stated the catalytic converter seems fine

I'm going to place an advert in the classifieds and hope somebody else can save her, really don't want her broken for the engine

You were right that the MAF would be the death of these vehicles eventually!
Shame the Hotfilm MAF project was not persued. Most people would have been up to swapping MAF's !

It needs pressure test first and foremost.
Nothing I can do to help from this end really due to distance.
Standalone ECU + mapping is going to run you at least 2k or so.

Would have thought that £300 would get a set of injectors and ecu.
But it could be something as simple as a fuel pressure issue rather than an expensive sensor problem. So its prudent to try and eliminte basic mechanical issues first.
Obviously the decision is yours to make. Depending on the modification of your ecu the expense in converting to PRJ's setup could be a bit of solder and a wire! The eproms need to be reprogrammed but that might only cost the price of a stamp with a bit of help from the Forum! You would still need to find a set of stock injectors though.
The car will not obviously have 400bhp but it should drive off boost sufficiently to pass the MOT. The ecu would be reversable as all you need to do is save the original file on the chips. This would only be the case if the ecu already had the correct map sensor installed. If not its going to be a extra few quid. So if you or a friend is handy with a soldering iron it could be a relatively affordable option just for the MOT. You will have to exercise restraint as the basic mod is for effectively a stock vehicle.
You would need to open the ecu up to inspect the map sensor and remove the eproms. There are guides to help.
It seems a retrograde step but its cost effective and reversable.

The usual recomendation is to check for fault codes and do a pressure test of the induction system to check for leaks. You would need Vagcom/VCDS and a compressor and bung for the pressure test. I don't believe there is any fault codes for the MAF but there is one reading that might confirm that the MAF is out of calibration.
What is the spec of the rest of the modifications in particular the injectors? If they are the dekka ones then I think they are notorious for issues especially around idle!
Understandably you want to MOT the vehicle so you can drive it legally. One way would be to source a stock ecu and set of injectors and see if that sorted the issue out, at least for MOT emission purposes. Then either that or the original ecu could be modified as per PRJ M232 which essentially converts the Motronic to Mafless (speed density) so no more maf issues and is mapable, assuming you have the capability, for your mods. A stand alone would ned to be set up from scratch more or less.
Of course nobody wants to waste money so its better to test and eliminate things as scientifically as possible.
It's a very difficult situation to be in due to the cars rarity, another car you would borrow or purchase a few known good items (MAF, ECU etc) and start to eliminate items.........unfortunately this is not easy on this car as standard ECU's seem to be £400-500 on ebay
I made a phone call to MRC and they won't work on aftermarket ECU's only the motronic, he estimated the repair (from previous experience without seeing the car) £800-1200
Sadly I think the best option is to sell the car complete and hope a more knowledgeable person can save her but the car also needs a full respray due to lacquer peel.........Keep your eyes peeled in the forum classifieds in the near future
