Would have thought that £300 would get a set of injectors and ecu.
But it could be something as simple as a fuel pressure issue rather than an expensive sensor problem. So its prudent to try and eliminte basic mechanical issues first.
Obviously the decision is yours to make. Depending on the modification of your ecu the expense in converting to PRJ's setup could be a bit of solder and a wire! The eproms need to be reprogrammed but that might only cost the price of a stamp with a bit of help from the Forum! You would still need to find a set of stock injectors though.
The car will not obviously have 400bhp but it should drive off boost sufficiently to pass the MOT. The ecu would be reversable as all you need to do is save the original file on the chips. This would only be the case if the ecu already had the correct map sensor installed. If not its going to be a extra few quid. So if you or a friend is handy with a soldering iron it could be a relatively affordable option just for the MOT. You will have to exercise restraint as the basic mod is for effectively a stock vehicle.
You would need to open the ecu up to inspect the map sensor and remove the eproms. There are guides to help.
It seems a retrograde step but its cost effective and reversable.

Pretty sure messing with the ECU is outside of most people's abilities, unless they happen to work in electronics.
It needs pressure test first and foremost.

Nothing I can do to help from this end really due to distance.
Standalone ECU + mapping is going to run you at least 2k or so.

You were right that the MAF would be the death of these vehicles eventually!
Shame the Hotfilm MAF project was not persued. Most people would have been up to swapping MAF's !

It's certainly outside of my capabilities, I'd do more harm than good

It's a shame that the MAf's have increased in price sooo much, I did place a wanted ad in the classifieds but nothing came of it

I'm going to place an advert in the classifieds and hope somebody else can save her, really don't want her broken for the engine

I'm hoping this has something to do with it

I've tested the MAF using a G70 flow chart from quattro world and it appears fine

Well yeah it needs a pressure test first and foremost.

Took her for an MOT today in the hope that the boost leak would cure the rich running..........alas no joy. I'm not sure it's ever passed a UK MOT after being mapped

CO was 7.2% and in the UK it needs to be 0.3%

The tester feels too much fuel is being injected and stated the catalytic converter seems fine

Is getting the car remapped the next port of call or a £350 MAF sensor?

It runs well and pulls hard with no obvious black/brown exhaust smoke
