  • near mint S2 avant for sale £7k spent in parts

No one in my family can believe I'm doing this. I have spent 4 years & £7k in parts getting this car to its current standard. My mates all think I'm mad as well.
I have lavished this car with hundreds & hundreds of hours of TLC, (it was off the road for a whole year for the underside of the car to get totally refurbished).
Its a bargain for anyone looking for a very reliable S2 that isn't going to give any unsuspected repair bills for the next few years - its all been done, by me (a time served mech engineer with an OCD for mechanical perfection).
    Read on.....
Audi S2 Avant 1994 Home Fried
I have owned this car since 2006 and in that time I have spent an awful lot of money & time restoring her to the condition she is now in.
    MOT until September
Tax until end August (included in asking price)

Family commitments and time limitations mean that I can only have 1 fun car so the S2 has to go to make way for something more fuel efficient and that my other half can drive without scaring herself!
    The car now includes:
17” Audi RS4 rims with H&R hubcentric spacers and longer bolts
    New 225/45/17 Khumo tyres
    Whiteline rear anti roll bar
Koni adjustable rear shocks (car now has neutral handling, nasty oversteer gone)
New front shocks with RS2 top mounts (comfortable and not too firm)
Bespoke 2.75” stainless exhaust system made by PipeWerx (VW Audi renowned) with 100 cell race cat and 2 silencers – sounds meaty but not boomy, and indecently quiet at motorway speeds
Fully serviced every 6000 miles with 5w/40 fully synthetic oil
Always use genuine parts/fluids where possible
    New battery last year
    Drivers seat bolster replaced
    Samco silicone boost hoses
Auxillary rad removed & pipes blocked correctly
    New engine & transmission mounts
    Uprated snub mount
Cambelt done at 155,000mls (water pump and cambelt were replaced just before I got the car but I didn’t know! So replaced the cambelt again just for good measure)
    Mark H boost pipe mod
Headlamp washer pump fused for safety
    Coolant replaced with VAG G012
    New lambda
    New WGFV
    New Forge dump valve
    New plug boots
    Injectors serviced (ASNU)
Home fried to 280+bhp and 440nm torque (was rolling roaded with a 0.2 bar boost leak and still make 272 bhp!)
No ecu faults (have VAGCOM software to check)
    No water ingress anywhere
RS2 fully refurbished brembo calipers fitted with A8 314mm discs

Whole underneath of the car stripped off (was 1 year off the road for this!)
This part of the resto project cost £3000 in parts alone!!!
    Every nut/bolt/seal/bearing/bush/drop link etc replaced
    All the suspension powder coated
Transmission/diff/axle oils replaced with high quality synthetic oil
    Prop regreased and re-aligned
Chassis rust sorted with Bilt Hamber and POR15
All bushes replaced with Poly where available or genuine Audi where not
    Everything greased and lubricated
    New wheel bearings all round
    Full alignment setup afterwards
    Handbrake cables replaced
New fuel filter (easy to do whilst tank was off)
    New fuel lines
    Braided brake lines
Front wings given extra rust protection so that they never rot (they were new when I bought the car)
New door mouldings silicone sealed to prevent corrosion

These are the highlights – more detail below.
I have a fully stamped service book that goes up to when I got the car, my service history since then is very comprehensive with all costs and part numbers included.
I have photos of everything, all the rebuild work is pictured in great detail.
I also have a massive technical file covering most repair jobs.
Every receipt for every part I have ever fitted included in sale.

I can honestly say that this car is nearly perfect, drives like a new car, no rattles etc. The engine is as tight as a nut – I think it must have had a rebuild at some time, its in rude health. Everything works!

    Bad points:
Some small stone chips that I have painted to prevent corrosion
Small amount of rust under rear window
Light in dashboard for temp display gone
1st to 2nd a little stiff until gearbox oil warms up (I’m being picky)
Front cross member could do with a de-rust and repaint

I have spent £10,000 (including car purchase) and spent a lot of hours getting this car to the standard it is now – it will give years of trouble free motoring and is bloody rapid for an old girl!
Handling is very good – a proper TORSEN diff giving 50:50 power split rather than the modern namby pamby Haldex diffs that put most of the power through the front wheels!

Asking price is £4500 NO OFFERS, don’t even try to bargain with me – I’m not interested. This car is in exceptional condition and most importantly, all the work has been done so its not going to cost you thousands to keep it on the road. Its worth every penny.
There’s more stuff too, just cant remember it all, this has had so much spent on it and I am such a perfectionist (with mechanical stuff) that maintenance costs over the next 5-8 years are going to be minimal, not like most S2’s that cost about £1000 a year to keep on the road. This car will fly through an MOT (it recently has!).

Car located in near Chester. Available to view most days and weekends. PRICE IS NON-NEGOTIABLE – TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT.

    S,

You're off your head. You will regret this and the price is too low.

What's the other fun car that the S2 is considered inferior ?

Your other half will come to regret not stopping you /asking you to sell it ?

I have two of these cars and three other B4s and do all of the work myself on them, notwithstanding the **** up in my signature, and I know what you would have gone through to carry out all of those jobs on the car.

Don't sell it, it will be expensive in the medium run financially and emotionally.

Just my immediate gut reactions to your thread, sorry if it is a bit curt.

    Kind regards.

Thanks for the advice - it is cheap, I HATE selling cars, I like the horrible deed over quick before I change my mind! I've just hit a changing point in my life.
The other car I built from a load of random parts. I could never sell it, its priceless to me.
Someone will get a bloody good deal thats for sure!

        S,

Not to be too intrusive, but would you post a photo of the other car just to appreciate what you have in mind ?

Still think you need to be committed btw.

Wait till everyone sees this thread, you'll be in trouble then !

I have to say, Don't do it - just my 2ps worth!

On the other hand anyone want to lend me the cash?, I'll gladly pay a silly high interest rate!

That is a total bargain for whoever gets it, no doubt.

My Capri is in the exact same condition as your S2. I also took it off the road for a year to rebuilt it, I replaced everything on it; bushes, bearings, ball joints, seals, gaskets... as well as everything getting sandblasted and powder coated. It's currently in the body shop having some small bubbles on the wings sorted. When it comes out it will be for sale! Literally everyone says I'm mad. Kept in its current state for a few years, it could appriciate from 3k to 10k.

I will regret selling the car, but you can't keep everything.

Sometimes the doing of the work is the bit you enjoy, its therapy, it always amazes me these old guys who restore classic bikes to perfection and then sell them immediately, sometimes without riding them but that's what they love doing.. I find it very hard to sell cars and bikes, I get too attached. I've been fancying an RS4 for a while but can't bring myself to sell the quattro or an S2 (or any of the bikes!).

Shame to see this is up for sale after all the work that has gone in to it.

Hopefully it will go to someone on here..

                              God luck with the sale.
