Am waiting for it to drop to 5k!!! but seriously this a absolute pisss take letting a car of that quality go for peanuts there must be something seriously wrong with it??
Wrong end of the country else I'd have given it a look over... would want to know what's been mechanically done really, cosmetics it looks great albeit the front bumper is not secured properly to the wing - like mine - suspect rusted captive nut in wing (like mine!) and possibly side skirts (not really visible)...
It looks completely stock, Aux rad looks nice and shiney as do all the front grills and fogs etc so if the same attention has been given under the bonnet and suspension this is a steal.
spoke to bloke yesterday and said would bring it down from up north to london .....but wanted a sizeable deposit (non refundable) and i was not willing to do this ..........what makes me a bit nervous is why would a trader (that he is) want to get rid of the car so quickly ????????????
If there is anybody in the area he is based and would look at the car for me for a drink i will buy it but just dont want to buy a dog !!!!!!!!!!
let me know if anyone can help as i am desperate to get on the rs2 ladder
Price on Pistonheads is now 7k! The company's web site looks a bit strange and here is a quote from it:
"As many of our old friends know we dont buy to sell but simply sell off parts of our vast collection including movie stuff , watches and our cars . For no profit just fun and great sport."
From what I know of them what they really do is race Ferraris and Caterhams.I think a few years ago they pumped a load of money into speculatively buying 'future' classics like this,a load of Integrales and some other oddball stuff - I know of them from my Integrale days.
Where they are based is also very nice and not a cheap place to live.
Like I say I only know OF them and have never had any actual dealings WITH them but I shouldn't imagine they have bought many wrong 'uns. Also if you can prepare and maintain racing Ferraris I'm sure you can look after an RS2 properly!
For what it's worth I would have been down and been very interested if I hadn't bought my S2 a few weeks ago.
I tried to arrange a viewing today, it was a strange exerience.
Called the chap in the morning to initially be met with a rather abrupt attitude. But from what he said, it sounded as though he'd had to deal with a number of timewasters, so fair enough, I can understand that. He wanted to know the origins of my cash and if this could be proved. This I found strange, and I must admit, a little offensive but nevertheless I assured him it was legit and could be proved.
Once he'd warmed to me and realised I was genuine, he was much more personable and seemed genuine in what he said. He requested an email via Pistonheads confirming my interest which I sent straight after our call.
We then exchanged a few text messages and arranged a meeting in the afternoon in which i'd follow him to his house and the car. Nearer the time I called to say I was on my way only to be told that he hadn't received my email so thought I wasn't interested and had gone out. So after a further exchange of texts and another email via Pistonheads (that also hasn't been received), there has been no viewing and won't be until these emails hovering in cyberspace decide to land.
So there you have it, what do you make of that?
Definitely one of the more weird experiences of my car purchasing over the last 18 years.
Audi S2 Avant, 1995, ...and it begins with a Homefry
Audi 80 Sport, 1986, ...my first car...wish I still had it
sigpic
I Spoke to the vendor about this car on Friday also and seemed very genuine but did have the old story of there are two people on there way to view, and then half hour latrer a text to say they didnt show so the car is yours!
And towards the end of our conversation that night it was mentioned i could pay a deposit to reserve the car to which i replied if I buy I will arrive with the cash in full and take away.
Seems dodgy, and when I searched the dealer in question alot of very bad feedback pops up form Lotus and Ferrari forums.
Anyway - this is my first post on this forum, helo everybody. I am looking to buy a RS2 (not this one now though!)
It would seem like the seller is much more interested in getting deposit(s) than selling a car. If I had the time I'd try and hold him to a viewing to suss it out, at least to get the ad removed or prove it's legit!
If he's being cautious then he's not very intelligent about it - looks like he's missed on selling the car to forum members twice already!
Adam - Welcome & Good Luck finding a car BTW - buying an RS2 was the best (car related) decision I've ever made
Thanks Ross, hopefully the blue RS2 mentioned above comes up for sale soon!
If I was nearer the green RS2 in question I'd go and have a look like you say but its about 5 hours from me! It did have some faults when i spoke to the seller also, previously registered in Belfast so its down as an export, boot doesnt open from outside and there no Tax or MOT. Just so others are aware before they go and view possibly. nevertheless it's a very cheap RS2 at £7k.
well its definately coming up , i spoke to to the guy just the other day (he is a dealer) he said he will drive it to my workshop so i can have a look when he collects , Im personally not interested but will post all details and a contact number as soon as i know he has it in his possesion
