Only problem is, alot of the 2.5 TDi's are auto, is that a problem?

I know this was an old post mate, but my dad has a rover 200 bubble with 2.0L series diesel. 105 bhp i think.?

I've driven it a few times, pull ok, and seems good on fuel. its the only diesel i've driven but seeing as you have experience with it, how would you say the mpg compares to other diesels you've had, have?

I'm thinking of getting a 5 cylinder 2.5 TDi A6 (not v6) , I was wondering if it will do similar mpg?

Compared to my CQ, the rover is very good on fuel.

you will get 35+mpg out of one of these, have heard of over 60mpg if driven like an old woman when everything is setup and running spot on.I get about 650 miles per tank (not taking it easy)

          only 35mpg?

I need at least 45mpg.. others have told me 45 should be easy on the 5 pot?

my daily commute is soon to be around 48miles a day (24 there 24 back) and my money for fuel is going to be pretty tight.

i was hoping to be spending about £25-£30 a week on diesel over 5 days.

not that its been mentioned but bit of a heads up. Dont go near the 2.0 TDi engines around 2006 year I know three people who have\had them.

An a6 an a3 and a passat..all oil guzzlers, I borrowed the a3 for a couple of months too and not joking it went through 2-3 litres a month, and good oil ain't cheap.

Having owned an 80 1.9Tdi, I'm now looking to 'move up' to an A4 B6 Tdi quattro, probably an avant.

I haven't fully explored the options, but it seems like there are only 2 choices - 1.9 4 pot or 2.5 V6, correct?

From what I've read above, I'm already leaning towards the 1.9. How does this engine differ from the 80 1.9Tdi ?

i'd steer clear of the 2.5 v6 tdi i've just got rid of a a6 allroad with one of them engines, pita and soooo many problems. The 1.9tdi's are superb, the a4 one's have an updated turbo depending what model (varible vane) so more power easily available, still bomb proof tho. I have a 1.9 engine in my passat and thats on 224k now

If i have to choice i would choice 1.9tdi. My previous car was a4 96' 1.9tdi. 1.9 is cheaper to maintain, better consumption. My frend have 2.5tdi and only things i like about 2.5 is sound because is v6.

Differences between 1.9tdi in 80 b4 and 1.9tdi in b6 is that engine in b6 is pumpe duse technology, it have more moment and it have more power(it's very fun to drive), A4 b5 have 1.9tdi with three version 90ps, 110ps and 115ps(this one is pumpe duse technology) and i will go with last one. The standard tdi (non pumpe duse) is cheaper to run, maintain. In audi a4 b6 are three 1.9tdi engines 100, 115 and 130ps.

Both are more or less in the same insurance group 1.9 is group 13 and 2.5 is 15, fuel economy is not miles apart.
I am looking for a4 avant 2002+ 120k miles+ and not sure which is better, 1.9 or 2.5, any views are most welcome.
                        cheers

115 bhp is plenty for familly wagon and getting up 800 miles from the tank.

                          Thanks for the replies guys

are the differences between the 3 engines in the B6 1.9 (100, 115 and 130PS) purely down to mapping or are there other differences?
