      My car driving it hard does about 32 to 38. Injector may also help. Mpg was good as fuel couldn't get through filter...lol

        I finally got VCDS working so I've set the pump timing up correctly, now getting 39mpg around town and 50mpg on a motorway run. These are calculated figures too, not trip computer

                Along the bottom is fuel temperature and up the side is the timing, you have to get it around the blue line, I set mine slightly advanced, makes it easier to cold start and give a little better mpg, I was told.

                  I see that the fuel temp is 98. Checked mine tonight as its saying 200-201. Timing 49.

                  What should it be?

                    My fuel temp is never as low as 98, it's generally around 160-170. I usually take the car for a run to get it up to temp, then get the lap top hooked up ASAP, you'll see the fuel temp rising as the heat soaks into the fuel pump and heats up the fuel. My timing is currently around 50, but on advice I got off TDI Club I'm going to advance it right up to the green line.

                      So 200 is ok if head soak? That was after some data logging runs and a hard run over some back roads of 25ish miles. What's the advantage of getting closer to the green line? Do I need to alter my timing to the green line?

                        dont stone me to death but..............

                        i had a rover 420SDi (2.0 td, non intercooled)
                        kept losing power over 1/4 throttle, had genuine FSH from same garage for over 6 years, fuel filter was propperly shagged!
                        changed it and the car flew, so i took the liberty of turning the pump pressure up, thing would wheelspin in 2nd from 1800rpm

                        pity i couldnt get my 80 TDi Avant to do that, i might have kept it lol
